SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 85-79

DTC 85-79:

OPDS Sensor Initial Check Failure

NOTE: Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair and General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

1. Make sure nothing is on the front passenger's seat.

2. Clear the DTC memory Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.

Does the SRS indicator go off?

YES -

Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshooting the DTC.�

NO -

Go to step 4.

4. Clear the DTC memory Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

5. Do the OPDS/ODS unit initialization.

- '07 model: OPDS unit OPDS Unit Initialization
- '08-10 models: ODS unit Programming and Relearning

6. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.

Does the SRS indicator go off?

YES -

The system is OK.�

NO -

Replace the OPDS unit ('07 model) OPDS Unit Replacement or ODS unit ('08-10 models) ODS Unit Replacement, then clear the DTC. If the DTC is still present, replace the seat-back cover/pad with equipped OPDS sensor Front Seat-back Cover Replacement.�
