SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 86-1x, 86-2x

DTC 86-1x ("x" can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F):

Faulty OPDS Seat-Back Sensor ('08-10 models)

DTC 86-2x ("x" can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F):

Faulty OPDS Seat Support Sensor ('08-10 models)

NOTE: Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair and General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

1. Clear the DTC memory Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.

Does the SRS indicator stay on?

YES -

Go to step 3.

NO -

Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.�

NOTE: Aftermarket devices (fluorescent lights, laptop computers, etc.) used near the front passenger's seat-back can interfere with the seat-back sensors and cause a false DTC 86-1x or 86-2x. If one of these devices was used, clear the DTC, operate the device near the seat-back, and recheck for DTCs. If DTC 86-1x or 86-2x is set, clear it, and do not use the device near the seat-back.

3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

4. Check the connections at the OPDS sensor harness connectors (A), the ODS unit 18P connector (B), and the ODS unit.





Are the connections OK?

YES -

Go to step 5.

NO -

Repair the connection, then clear the DTC.�

5. Replace the seat-back cover/pad with equipped OPDS sensor Front Seat-back Cover Replacement.

6. Clear the DTC memory Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

7. Do the ODS unit initialization Programming and Relearning.

8. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

9. Read the DTC Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Is DTC 86-1x or 86-2x indicated?

YES -

Go to step 10.

NO -

The system is OK.�

10. Replace the ODS unit ODS Unit Replacement, then clear the DTC.

11. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.

Does the SRS indicator go off?

YES -

The system is OK.�

NO -

Replace the SRS unit SRS Unit Replacement.�
