Front Door Latch: Service and Repair




Front Door Latch Replacement

NOTE: Put on gloves to protect your hands.

1. Raise the glass fully.

2. Remove these items:

- Door panel Service and Repair
- Plastic cover, as necessary Locations

3. Disconnect the cylinder rod from the lock cylinder, and disconnect the outer handle rod from the outer handle Service and Repair.

4. Remove the bolt, then remove the center lower channel (A) by pulling it downward.






5. Remove the screw securing the lock knob (A).






6. Disconnect the power door lock actuator connectors (A), and detach the inner handle cable clip (B). Remove the screws (C, D) securing the latch (E) and the lock cable protector.






7. Remove the latch (A) with the protector through the hole in the door. Take care not to bend the outer handle rod (B), the cylinder rod (C), the lock cable (D), or the inner handle cable (E).






8. Remove the screws, then remove the upper cover (A) and the base cover (B) from the latch (C) by releasing the hook (D).

NOTE:

- Reinstall the latch in the reverse order of removal. Apply multipurpose grease to the pivot (E) on the latch lever.
- Make sure the anti-friction tape seal (F) of the latch cable is installed in the covers securely.





9. If necessary, disconnect the inner handle cable (A) from the latch (B). Reinstall the cable, wrap anti-friction tape seal (C) around the cable.






10. Install the latch in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

- If the clip is damaged or stress-whitened replace it with a new one.
- Push the clip and the hook into place securely.
- Make sure the actuator connectors are plugged in properly and each rod is connected securely.
- Make sure the door locks and opens properly.
- Peel off the old anti-friction tape seals on the covers if necessary. Clean the surface and the edges of the covers, and screw heads with isopropyl alcohol where new adhesive is to be applied. Attach the new anti-friction tape seals (A, B, C) to the surface and edges of the covers, and screw heads as shown.
- Make sure the plastic cover on the door is installed properly and sealed around its outside perimeter to seal out water.
