Camshaft Replacement (J35A7)




Camshaft Replacement

Front

1. Do the battery removal procedure Removal and Replacement.

2. Drain the engine coolant Service and Repair.

3. Disconnect the radiator hoses (A).





4. Remove the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve EGR Valve Replacement (J35A7).

5. Remove the EGR valve stud bolts (A).





6. Remove the timing belt Timing Belt Removal (J35A7).

7. Remove the front rocker arm assembly Rocker Arm Assembly Removal (J35A7).

8. Remove the front camshaft pulley.

9. Remove the thrust cover (A), then remove the front camshaft (B).





10. Install the front camshaft in the reverse order of removal. Always use a new O-ring (C). Apply new engine oil to the journals and the cam lobes.

11. Apply new engine oil to the threads of the camshaft pulley mounting bolt, then install the front camshaft pulley Camshaft, Rocker Arm Assembly, Camshaft Seal, and Pulley Installation (J35A7).

12. Install the front rocker arm assembly, then tighten the mounting bolts Camshaft, Rocker Arm Assembly, Camshaft Seal, and Pulley Installation (J35A7).

13. Install the timing belt Timing Belt Installation (J35A7).

14. Adjust the valve clearance Valve Clearance Adjustment (J35A7).

15. Install the EGR valve stud bolts, then install the EGR valve EGR Valve Replacement (J35A7).

16. Connect the radiator hoses.

17. Do the battery installation procedure Removal and Replacement.

18. Fill the radiator with engine coolant, and bleed the air from the cooling system with the heater valve open Service and Repair.

19. Do the crankshaft position (CKP) pattern clear/CKP pattern learn procedure Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.

Rear

1. Relieve the fuel pressure Service and Repair.

2. Remove the air cleaner assembly Service and Repair.

3. Drain the engine coolant Service and Repair.

4. Remove the quick-connector fitting cover (A), then disconnect the fuel feed hose (B) Fuel Line/Quick-Connect Fitting Removal.





5. Disconnect the heater hoses (C) and remove the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge joint (D) with the bracket.

6. Remove the brake lines from the master cylinder Service and Repair.

7. Remove the timing belt Timing Belt Removal (J35A7).

8. Remove the rear rocker arm assembly Rocker Arm Assembly Removal (J35A7).

9. Remove the rear camshaft pulley.

10. Remove the thrust cover (A), then remove the rear camshaft (B).





11. Install the rear camshaft in the reverse order of removal. Always use a new O-ring (C). Apply new engine oil to the journals and the cam lobes.

12. Apply new engine oil to the threads of the camshaft pulley mounting bolt, then install the rear camshaft pulley Camshaft, Rocker Arm Assembly, Camshaft Seal, and Pulley Installation (J35A7).

13. Install the rear rocker arm assembly, then tighten the mounting bolts Camshaft, Rocker Arm Assembly, Camshaft Seal, and Pulley Installation (J35A7).

14. Install the timing belt Timing Belt Installation (J35A7).

15. Adjust the valve clearance Valve Clearance Adjustment (J35A7).

16. Install the brake lines Service and Repair and do the brake system bleeding procedure Service and Repair.

17. Connect the heater hoses and install the EVAP canister purge joint with the bracket.

18. Connect the fuel feed hose Fuel Line/Quick-Connect Fitting Installation, then install the quick-connect fitting cover.

19. Install the air cleaner assembly Service and Repair.

20. Inspect for fuel leaks. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II) (do not operate the starter) so the fuel pump runs for about 2 seconds and pressurizes the fuel line. Repeat this operation three times, then check for fuel leakage at any point in the fuel line.

21. Fill the radiator with engine coolant, and bleed the air from the cooling system with the heater valve open Service and Repair.

22. Do the crankshaft position (CKP) pattern clear/CKP pattern learn procedure Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.
