Low oil pressure indicator stays on

'08-10 models J35A7 engine

1. Connect the Honda Diagnostic System (HDS) to the data link connector (DLC) Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.

2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

3. Make sure the HDS communicates with the vehicle and the powertrain control module (PCM). If it does not communicate, troubleshoot the DLC circuit Testing and Inspection.

4. Check for DTCs Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview. If a DTC is present, diagnose, and repair the cause before continuing with this test.

5. Check the engine oil level Testing and Inspection.

Is the engine oil level normal?

YES -

Go to step 6.

NO -

Add engine oil to the normal level, then recheck.

6. Remove the rocker arm oil pressure sensor Rocker Arm Oil Pressure Sensor Replacement (J35A7).

7. Install the oil pressure hose, the A/T low pressure gauge w/panel, the A/T pressure hose, 2,210 mm, the pressure gauge adapter, and the A/T pressure adapter as shown, then install the rocker arm oil pressure sensor to the pressure gauge adapter.

8. Warm up the engine.

9. At the idling of an engine, check the oil pressure gauge valve.

70 kPa (0.7 kgf/cm2, 10 psi) or less?

YES -

Go to step 10.

NO -

Check the following items:

- Blocking of oil filter.
- Blocking of oil strainer.
- Inspect the oil pressure relief valve Service and Repair.
- Check the oil pump Service and Repair.

10. Check the ROCKER ARM OIL PRESSURE SENSOR in the PGM-FI DATA LIST with the HDS.

Is the 19.0 kPa (0.19 kgf/cm2, 2.76 psi) or less?

YES -

Go to step 14.

NO -

Go to step 11.

11. Jump the SCS line with the HDS, then turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

NOTE: This step must be done to protect the PCM from damage.

12. Disconnect the PCM connector C (49P).

13. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

Does the low oil pressure indicator go off?

YES -

Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software PCM Update, or substitute a known-good PCM Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good PCM, replace the original PCM Service and Repair.

NO -

Replace the gauge control module Service and Repair.

14. Check the MAP SENSOR and BARO SENSOR in the PGM-FI DATA LIST with HDS.

BARO SENSOR-MAP SENSOR="A"

Is "A" 19.9 kPa (0.20 kgf/cm2, 2.89 psi) or less?

YES -

Replace rocker arm oil pressure sensor Rocker Arm Oil Pressure Sensor Replacement (J35A7).

NO -

Replace the PCM Service and Repair.
