Automatic Transmission Installation
Special Tools Required
- Subframe Alignment Pin 070AG-SJAA10S
- Engine Support Hanger, A and Reds AAR-T1256
- 2008 V6 Attachment Arm SIL02C000033
- Subframe Adapter VSB02C000016
- Engine Hanger Balance Bar VSB02C000019

NOTE: Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
1. If you did not clean the ATF cooler when you removed the transmission, and you are installing an overhauled or remanufactured transmission, clean the ATF cooler ATF Cooler Cleaning.
2. Install a new O-ring (A) on the torque converter (B), then install the torque converter on the mainshaft (C).
NOTE: Make sure the torque converter is fully engaged on the mainshaft, the starter shaft, and the ATF pump gear. Failure to do so will result in severe transmission or engine damage.
3. Install the 14 x 20 mm dowel pin (D) and the 10 x 20 mm dowel pin (E) in the torque converter housing.
4. Place the transmission on the jack, and raise it to engine level.
5. Attach the transmission to the engine, and install the lower transmission housing mounting bolts.
6. Install the rear transmission housing mounting bolts.
NOTE: Be careful not to damage the CKP sensor.
7. Install the upper transmission housing mounting bolts.
8. Install the transmission housing mounting bolt (A).
9. Install the front mount bracket (B) with new mounting bolts.
10. Secure the harness clamp bracket (C) with the bolt.
11. Connect the CKP sensor connector (A), and install the CKP sensor cover (B) and the sensor harness clamp bracket (C).
12. Install a new set ring (A) on the intermediate shaft (B).
13. Clean the areas where the intermediate shaft contacts to the transmission (differential) with solvent, and dry with compressed air. Apply ATF to the intermediate shaft splines (C), then install the intermediate shaft, be sure not to allow dust or other foreign particles to enter the transmission.
NOTE:
- Do not wash the rubber part with solvent.
- Insert the intermediate shaft carefully to prevent damaging the oil seal (D).
14. Install the exhaust manifold bracket (E) and the heat shield (F).
15. Install a new set ring (A) on the left driveshaft (B).
16. Clean the areas where the left driveshaft contacts to the transmission (differential) with solvent, and dry with compressed air. Then install the left driveshaft, be sure not to allow dust or other foreign particles to enter the transmission. Turn the steering knuckle fully outward, and slide the driveshaft into the differential until you feel its set ring fully engage the side gear.
NOTE:
- Do not wash the rubber part with solvent.
- Insert the left driveshaft horizontally to prevent damaging the oil seal (C).
17. Apply the recommended grease to the right driveshaft inboard-joint splines.
18. Slide the right driveshaft over the intermediate shaft splines until you feel the driveshaft fully engage the intermediate shaft set ring.
19. Install the transmission lower mount (A).
20. Install the transmission ground cable (B).
21. Using the subframe adapter (VSB02C000016) and a jack, raise the front subframe up to the body.
22. Loosely tighten the left rear subframe mounting bolt (A); insert the 15.7 mm side of the subframe alignment pin (070AG-SJAA10S) through the positioning hole (B) on the rear stiffener, through the positioning hole (C) on the subframe, and into the positioning hole (D) on the body, then tighten the left rear subframe mounting bolt.
23. Loosely tighten the right rear subframe mounting bolt with the same procedure as the left rear using the subframe alignment pin.
24. Loosely tighten new front subframe mounting bolt (A) and the stiffener mounting bolts (B) on the both sides to the front subframe bracket.
25. Tighten the rear-driver's side subframe mounting bolt (A) to the specified torque.
26. Tighten the rear-passenger's side subframe mounting bolt (B) to the specified torque.
27. Tighten the front subframe mounting bolts (C) to the specified torque.
NOTE: Check all of the subframe mounting bolts, and retighten if necessary.
28. Tighten the front and rear stiffener mounting bolts (D) to the specified torque.
NOTE: Before tightening the stiffener mounting bolts, check that the positioning holes and slot are aligned using the subframe alignment pin.
29. Remove the jack and the subframe adapter.
30. Loosely tighten the transmission lower mount bolt.
31. Remove the jack and front subframe adapter.
32. Install the two mount bracket bolts (A) on the rear of the bracket, and install new bolts (B) on the front.
33. Tighten the transmission lower mount bolt to the specified torque.
34. Attach the torque converter to the drive plate (A) with eight bolts (B). Rotate the crankshaft pulley as necessary to tighten the bolts to half of the specified torque, then do the final torque in a crisscross pattern. After tightening the last bolt, check that the crankshaft rotates freely.
35. Install the torque converter cover (C).
36. Connect the engine mount control system connector.
37. Connect the power steering fluid hose (A) to the power steering fluid line (B), and secure the hose with its hose clamp (C).
38. Connect the power steering pressure switch connector.
39. 4WD: Install the 14 x 20 mm dowel pin (A) in the transmission, and install the transfer assembly (B) on the transmission.
40. 4WD: Secure the transfer breather hose bracket (A) on the transfer assembly with the bolt, and connect the breather hose (B) over the breather pipe (C) with the dot mark (D) facing out.
41. 4WD: Install the propeller shaft (A) onto the transfer companion flange (B) by aligning the reference mark (C). Make sure you use new mounting bolts.
42. Install the ball joints on each lower arm (A) to each knuckle (B) with new castle nuts (C), and secure the castle nuts with the lock pins (D).
NOTE: Do not install the lock pins (D) on to the castle nut until the castle nut tightened to the specified torque.
43. Install the nuts (E) on the ball joint pins (F) on each stabilizer link (G). Insert a 6 mm Allen wrench (H) in the top of the ball joint pins, and tighten the nuts to the specified torque.
44. Install the tie-rod end ball joints (I) to each knuckle with new nuts (J) and new cotter pins (K).
45. Install exhaust pipe A with new self-locking nuts and new gaskets (B).
46. Install the front subframe stiffener with new mounting bolts.
47. Install a new front mount bolt, and install the front mount stop (A) with new nuts.
48. Remove the engine support hanger and the engine hanger balance bar with the 2008 V6 attachment arm.
49. Install the connector bracket to the front cylinder head.
50. Install the harness clamp to the rear cylinder head, and connect the breather hose over the breather pipe.
51. Connect the transmission fluid pressure switch A (2nd clutch) connector (A).
52. Connect these connectors:
- Input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor connector (A)
- Output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor connector (B)
- ATF temperature sensor connector (C)
- Transmission fluid pressure switch B (3rd clutch) connector (D)
53. Connect the ATF cooler hoses (A) to the ATF cooler lines (B), and secure the hoses with the clips (C) Service and Repair.
54. Connect the transmission range switch connector (A).
55. Install the harness clamp bracket (A), and install the harness clamp (B) on the bracket.
56. Install the harness cover (C) on its bracket, and secure with the bolts.
57. Connect the A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve C connector (D).
58. Install the harness cover (A) on its bracket (B), and secure it with the bolt.
59. Connect these connectors:
- A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve A connector (C)
- A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve B connector (D)
- 4th clutch transmission fluid pressure switch connector (E)
- Shift solenoid wire harness connector (F)
60. Install the harness clamp (G).
61. Apply molybdenum grease to the hole in the bushing (A) in the shift cable end (B).
62. Secure the shift cable bracket (C) with the nuts.
63. Attach the shift cable end to the control lever (D), then insert the control pin (E) into the control lever hole through the shift cable end, and secure the control pin with the spring clip (F).
64. Install the starter (A) and a new gasket (B) Removal and Replacement.
65. Install the harness clamp bracket (A), and install the harness clamp (B) on its bracket.
66. Install the positive starter cable (C), and connect the S terminal connector (D).
67. Install the water hose (E) in its clamp (F).
68. Install the transmission breather hose (A) over the breather pipe (B).
69. Install a new O-ring (A) on the pump outlet hose (B), and install the pump outlet hose on the pump.
70. Install the hose clamp (C) with the bolt.
71. Connect the steering joint.
72. Refill the power steering fluid reservoir with fluid to the upper level line.
73. Refill the transmission with ATF.
74. Install the battery base bracket and the battery base.
75. Install the air cleaner housing, the intake air duct, and the engine cover.
76. Install the auxiliary under-hood fuse/relay box on the battery base, and install the fuse/relay box on its bracket.
77. Do the battery installation procedure Procedures.
NOTE: Do not the road-test until step 87.
78. Install the splash shield (A).
79. Install the bulkhead cover.
80. Install the cowl top side covers on the cowl cover.
81. Install the front wheels.
82. Set the parking brake, start the engine at fast idle, and turn the steering wheel from lock-to-lock several times to bleed air from the system. Recheck the fluid level, and refill if necessary.
83. Shift the transmission through all positions three times. Check the shift lever operation, the A/T gear position indicator operation, and the shift cable adjustment.
84. Check and adjust the front wheel alignment Service and Repair.
85. Start the engine in P or N, and warm it up to normal operating temperature (the radiator fan comes on).
86. Turn off the engine, and check the ATF level ATF Level Check.
87. Do the road-test A/T Road Test.
