DTC 81-79:
Front Passenger's Weight Sensors Initial Check Failure
NOTE:
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair and General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
- Before replacing the SRS unit, check the SRS unit software version with the HDS. If the software version is not the latest, update the SRS unit software SRS Unit Update, and retest.
1. Clear the DTC memory.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
Does the SRS indicator stay on, and is DTC 81-79 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 3.
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
4. Make sure nothing is on the front passenger's seat.
5. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
Does the SRS indicator go off?
YES -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.�
NO -
Loosen the front passenger's seat mounting bolts Front Seat Removal/Installation (USA/Canada), and shake the seat in all directions. Tighten the seat mounting bolts to the specified torque, then do the front passenger's weight sensor initialization ODS Unit Initialization. If the problem is still present, replace the front passenger's weight seat sensor Service and Repair, then clear the DTC, and if the problem is still present, replace the ODS unit ODS Unit Replacement, then clear the DTC.�
