Rear Door Latch: Service and Repair




Rear Door Latch Replacement

NOTE: Put on gloves to protect your hands.

1. Raise the glass fully.

2. Remove the door panel Service and Repair.

3. Remove the plastic cover as needed.

4. Detach the rod fastener.

5. Disconnect the outer handle rod from the outer handle.

6. Remove the screws (A, B) securing the latch (C), then lower it.






7. Remove the bolt, then remove the collar (A) from the rear lower channel (B).






8. Remove the latch (A) out from between the rear lower channel (B) and the door. Take care not to bend the latch cable (C) and inner handle cable (D).






9. Remove the foam seals (A, B) from the latch protector (C) and the latch (D).






10. Remove the screw, then remove the latch protector (A) from the latch (B).






11. Detach the latch cable (A) and the inner handle cable (B) from the latch (C).





12. Install the latch in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

- Make sure the connector is plugged in properly, and the outer handle rod is connected securely.
- Make sure the power door lock operates properly.

- When reinstalling the door panel, make sure the plastic cover is installed properly and sealed around its outside perimeter to seal out water.
- Before reinstalling the latch protector, clean the latch and the latch protector surfaces with isopropyl alcohol where the new foam seals will be attached.
- After reinstalling the latch protector to the latch, attach the new foam seal to the protector and the latch.
