Dashboard/Steering Hanger Beam Removal/Installation

Special Tools Required

- KTC Trim Tool Set SOJATP2014
*Available through the Honda Tool and Equipment Program.

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations Locations and the precautions and procedures Service and Repair before doing repairs or service.

NOTE:

- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
- Take care not to scratch the dashboard, body, or other related parts.
- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.
- Have an assistant help you when removing and installing the dashboard.

1. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure Procedures, then wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.

2. Remove these items:

- A-pillar trim, both sides
- Dashboard center panel Dashboard Center Panel Removal/Installation
- Driver's dashboard lower cover Driver's Dashboard Lower Cover Removal/Installation
- Passenger's dashboard undercover Passenger's Dashboard Undercover Removal/Installation
- Glove box Service and Repair
- Kick panels, both sides
- Center console Center Console Removal/Installation
- Steering column Steering Column Removal/Installation

3. Remove the parking brake lever mounting bolt and screw, then lower the lever.

Driver's side

4. Disconnect the roof wire harness connector (A) and detach the harness clips (B).






5. From under the dash, disconnect the driver's door wire harness connectors (A), the floor wire harness connector (B), the right engine compartment wire harness connectors (C), the left engine compartment wire harness connectors (D), and the parking brake switch connector (E) from the under-dash fuse/relay box (F), and then release the wire harness clips (G).






Middle portion

6. Disconnect the SRS unit connectors A and B from the SRS unit SRS Unit Replacement. Disconnect the A/C subharness connectors (C), the floor wire harness connector (D), the AC inverter connector (E), the GPS antenna (F), the HandsFreeLink control unit connector (G), and the USB control unit connector (H), then detach the harness clips (I).






Passenger's side

7. Disconnect the RES connector (A) (with rear entertainment system) and the roof wire harness (B), then detach the clips (C) from the passenger's side A-pillar (D).






8. From under the dash, disconnect the passenger's door wire harness connector (A), the right engine compartment wire harness connectors (B), the floor wire harness connectors (C), and if equipped, the stereo amplifier connectors (D).






9. Remove the bolts securing the lower portion of the dashboard hanger beam.






10. Open the passenger's door, and remove the special bolts (A, B).

1. Remove the caps (C).

2. Loosen the special bolts until they disengage from the threads on the hanger beam side bracket (D). and engage the inside threads of the adjusting nuts (E). The thread lock on the special bolts makes the special bolts and the adjusting nuts turn together.

3. Continue to loosen the special bolts to turn the adjusting nuts into the sleeves (F) until the nuts engage the stops (G). This creates a gap (H) between the adjusting nuts and the body.

4. Loosen the special bolts to disengage them from the adjusting nuts. Then remove the bolts.





11. Check that the adjusting nuts (A) are seated in the space adjusters (B).

1. Insert an 8 mm hex wrench in the adjusting nut.

2. Gently turn the wrench counterclockwise.

3. If the wrench turns easily, continue turning until the adjusting nut seats and engages the stop (C).

4. If the wrench does not turn easily, the adjusting nut is seated.

NOTE: If either adjusting nut was not seated, replace the special bolts.





12. Open the driver's door, and remove the caps (A), then remove the bolts (B, C).






13. Lift up on the dashboard (A) to release it from the guide pins (B, C).






14. Carefully remove the dashboard through either front door opening.

NOTE: Do not rest the dashboard on its lower center cover opening, or it may be damaged. Lay it on its front or back.

15. Install the dashboard in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

- Make sure the dashboard fits onto the guide pins correctly.
- Before tightening the bolts, make sure the wire harnesses are not pinched.
- Make sure the connectors are plugged in properly.
- Make sure the adjusting nuts (A) turn easily by hand in the fixed space adjusters (B). Tighten the adjusting nuts by hand until they engage the stops (C) before reinstalling the dashboard.
- Before reinstalling the dashboard, screw the special bolts (D) into the adjusting nuts and check that they turn together. If they do not turn together, replace the special bolts.
- After setting the dashboard in the body, reinstall all of the mounting bolts but do not tighten them. First tighten the driver's side bracket bolts to the specified torque. Next, tighten the special bolts. As you tighten the bolts, the adjusting nuts screw out of the sleeves until they contact the body. Continue tightening the special bolts to the specified torque.
- Tighten all remaining mounting bolts to the specified torque.
- After tightening both side brackets mounting bolts, tighten the center frame mounting bolts.
- Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure Procedures.
- If necessary, adjust the shift cable Adjustments.
- Check for any DTCs that may have been set during repairs, and clear them.
