REPAIR PROCEDURE
NOTE:
^ Before you begin, make sure you know the SRS component locations, and that you read and understand the SRS precautions and procedures explained in the service manual.
^ Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing parts.
^ This procedure is in an outline form that you can also use as a checklist for the repair. If you need more details on the item below, bookmark it in the 2009 - 2011 Pilot Service Manual, or view it online.
- Battery Disconnection/Reconnection
1. Remove the passenger's head restraint.
2. Slide the passenger's seat all the way forward, and adjust the seat to its maximum height.
3. Carefully pry up the bottom of the anchor cover at the pry point using the appropriate trim tool to release the tab, then remove the cover by pulling it upward.
5. Remove the seat belt lower anchor bolt.
6. Remove the seat track end covers from the back of both passenger's seat tracks.
7. Remove the rear mounting bolts from the passenger's seat.
8. Move the passenger's seat backward, remove the front track end covers, then remove the front mounting bolts from the seat.
9. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure, then wait at least 3 minutes before continuing.
10. Lift up the front of the seat, then disconnect the side airbag connector and the power seat harness connector.
11. With the help of an assistant, carefully remove the passenger's seat.
12. Touring model: Remove the front seat under tray and slide plate:
^ Open the under tray.
^ Gently twist the under tray while pulling it out until one side comes off of the guide rail.
^ Tilt the removed side of the under tray down, then pull the other side off of the guide rail.
^ Remove the under tray slide plate bolts.
13. Remove the passenger's seat front cover.
14. Remove the recline cover just enough to disconnect the power seat adjustment switch connector.
15. Refer to the illustrations in step 14 and below for the following sub-steps:
^ Remove the nuts from the seat foot brackets.
^ Apply battery power to terminal 11 (PNK) and ground to terminal 7 (RED) of the power seat switch connector to move the seat slide all the way forward.
^ Using a TORX T30 bit, remove the two TORX bolts that attach the seat slide to the weight sensors.
^ Apply ground to terminal 11 (PNK) and battery power to terminal 7 (RED) of the power seat switch connector to move the seat slide all the way back.
^ Using a TORX T30 bit, remove the four TORX bolts that attach the seat slide to the weight sensors.
16. Using a TORX T30 bit, install the new slide adjuster to the passenger seat weight sensors using new TORX bolts. Install the seat foot brackets using new nuts.
17. Reinstall all removed items onto the seat (covers etc., except for the track end covers).
18. Touring model: Reinstall the front seat under tray and slide plate:
^ Reinstall the under tray slide plate bolts.
^ Gently twist the under tray while pushing it in until both sides are on the guide rail.
^ Close the under tray.
19. With the help of an assistant, carefully place the seat into the vehicle, without installing the bolts yet.
20. Lift up the front of the seat, then reattach the side airbag connector and the power seat harness connector.
21. Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure, and make sure that it is fully charged.
22. Install the seat mounting bolts, and torque them to 47 N~m (35 lb-ft).
23. Install the front and rear track end covers.
24. Reinstall the head restraint.
25. Apply medium strength liquid thread lock to the lower seat belt anchor bolt.
26. Reinstall the seat belt lower anchor bolt, and torque it to 32 N~m (24 lb-ft).
27. Reinstall the seat belt anchor cover.
28. Verify that the passenger's seat operates smoothly and makes no noise when moving forward or backward.
29. Clear any DTCs that may have been set during this repair.
30. Do the OPDS (occupant position detection system) unit initialization:
^ Make sure the front passenger seat is dry.
^ Set the seat back in a normal position, and make sure there is nothing on the seat.
^ Make sure the ignition switch is in LOCK (0).
^ Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC).
^ Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
^ Make sure the HDS communicates with the vehicle and the SRS unit. If it does not communicate, troubleshoot the DLC circuit.
^ From the HDS Main Menu, select SRS, then INITIALIZATION. In the INITIALIZATION Menu, select OPDS Initialization. Follow the prompts until the OPDS sensor initialization has been completed.
^ Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
^ Disconnect the HDS from the DLC.
NOTE:
If the OPDS unit fails to initialize after several attempts, replace the seat-back cover/pad equipped with an OPDS sensor. If the OPDS unit continues to fail to initialize, replace the OPDS unit.
