VTM-4 System Symptom Troubleshooting - The VTM-4 indicator does not come on

The VTM-4 indicator does not come on

NOTE: Before you troubleshoot, review the general troubleshooting information Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

2. Check the VTM-4 indicator.

Does the VTM-4 indicator come on?

YES -

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.�

NO -

Go to step 3.

3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

4. Disconnect VTM-4 control unit connector A (22P) and B(12P).

5. Connect VTM-4 control unit connector terminals A14 and B11 to body ground with jumper wires respectively.






6. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

7. Check the VTM-4 indicator.

Does the VTM-4 indicator come on?

YES -

Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the VTM-4 control unit connectors. If the connections are OK, substitute a known-good VTM-4 control unit Service and Repair, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with the known-good VTM-4 control unit, replace the original VTM-4 control unit Service and Repair.�

NO -

Go to step 8.

8. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

9. Remove the jumper wires.

10. Connect gauge control module 32P connector terminal No. 14 to body ground with a jumper wire.






11. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

12. Check the VTM-4 indicator.

Does the VTM-4 indicator come on?

YES -

Repair an open in the wire between the gauge control module and the VTM-4 control unit.�

NO -

Go to the gauge control module self-diagnostic function Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.�
