Audio System Self-Diagnostic Function
How to Obtain the Audio Unit Serial Number
To obtain the audio unit serial number or a vehicle, do the following:
NOTE:
- This procedure can only be done when the power has been disconnected from the audio unit, and the audio unit displays CODE when the audio unit is turned on.
- If the audio unit does not display CODE when turned on, remove the No. 5 (20 A) fuse from the under-dash fuse/relay box for 1 minute, then reinstall the fuse.
To obtain the audio unit serial number, refer to Navi ECU in the navigation system diagnostic mode Navigation System Diagnostic Mode.
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
2. Make sure the audio system is turned off.
3. Push and hold the preset No. 1 and No. 6 buttons.
4. While holding the buttons, push the PWR knob to ON.
5. Release the buttons, and the self-diagnostic function begins (for 20 seconds).
6. The display shows an 8 digit serial number (example 12345678).

7. Use all 8 numbers as the serial number when using the interactive Network (iN) to retrieve the 4 digit anti-theft code.
8. To end the self-diagnostic function, turn the audio unit off, or turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0). The self-diagnostic function also ends if there is no interaction with the audio unit for 20 seconds.
How to Check the Audio System Condition
The audio system has a self-diagnostic function to help find problems with the audio system. To run the self-diagnostic function, do the following:
NOTE:
- Not all self-diagnostic functions appear on all models.
- There may be other self-diagnostic functions that are for factory use only.
- The self-diagnostic function does not find every problem with the audio system. Check any official Honda service website for more information about audio system.
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
2. Make sure the audio system is turned off.
3. Push and hold the No. 1 and No. 6 buttons.
4. While holding the buttons, push the PWR knob to ON.
5. Release the buttons, and the self-diagnostic function begins.
NOTE: If display says ENTER CODE, enter the security code and begin again.
6. When you are in the self-diagnostic mode, pressing a preset button starts the diagnostic mode that is assigned to that preset button.
NOTE: Any other diagnostic screens shown are for factory use only.
No. 3 button
Entire LCD lighting/light-out mode: Turns on/off the entire LCD to show the presence (LCD stuck on) or absence (LCD dead) of an LCD segment.
No. 4 button (With navigation)
Duty indication mode (for the illumination dim): Indicates the duty for the illumination dim control when the dashlights are on.
Gauge dimmer control values:
Headlights off: OFF
Headlights on: 01 (max low) through 22 (max high)
No. 5 button
Vehicle speed pulse (VSP) indication mode: Indicates the vehicle speed pulse input in hertz (Hz) and in speed (km/h).
AM/FM button (Push and hold 5 sec.)
Reception level indication mode: Indicates the reception level (dB) with the antenna amplifier on. Press the A.SEL button to turn the antenna amplifier off.
7. The self-diagnostic function, ends when you turn the audio unit off, or turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

Preparation
- Park the vehicle outdoors where you get good radio reception.
- Tune to a powerful local FM radio station then write down the radio station number.
- Tune to a powerful local AM radio station then write down the radio station number.
Check the reception level
1. Enter the audio system self-diagnostic function.
2. Press and hold the AM/FM button for more than 5 seconds to enter the FM reception mode. The AM/FM antenna amplifier is ON (A-SEL or TP is not displayed in the audio unit).
3. Tune to the FM radio station you wrote down in Preparation using the TUNE button (), and note the decibel level of that station when you release the button.
4. Press and release the SCAN button to turn the AM/FM antenna amplifier OFF (A-SEL or TP is now displayed in the audio unit).
5. Tune to the FM radio station you wrote down in Preparation using the TUNE button (), and note the decibel level of the FM station.
6. Press and release the SCAN button to turn the AM/FM antenna amplifier back ON (A-SEL or TP is not displayed in the audio unit).
7. Press and hold the AM/FM button for more than 5 seconds to enter the AM reception mode.
8. Tune to the AM radio station you wrote down in Preparation using the TUNE button (), and note the decibel level of that station when you release the button.
9. Press and release the SCAN button to turn the AM/FM antenna amplifier OFF (A-SEL or TP is now displayed in the audio unit).
10. Tune to the AM radio station you wrote down in Preparation using the TUNE button (), and note the decibel level of the AM station.
11. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or turn the audio unit OFF to exit the test mode.
12. Compare your results to a known-good vehicle, (make sure it is the same year and trim level) in the same location and direction, and under the same environmental conditions.
To check FM reception, press and hold the AM/FM button for 5 seconds, then release. To check the AM band, press and hold the AM/FM button for another 5 seconds, then release. The reception level is displayed in decibels (db). You can check the reception with or without the antenna amplifier. Press the A.SEL button to toggle between turning the antenna amplifier on and off. You can change the station with the tuner button to check the reception level of any specific radio station. Compare this value with a known-good vehicle to check the audio unit reception.
Speaker Check Mode
NOTE:
- Not all self-diagnostic functions appear on all models.
- There may be other self-diagnostic functions that are for factory use only.
- In some cases, you may not be able to enter a mode even if the designated button is pressed. In that case, try again.
- If no sound is heard from speakers, go to No sound is heard from the speaker(s) No Sound Is Heard From The Speaker(s) (Display Is Normal).
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
2. Make sure the audio system is turned off.
3. Push and hold the preset No. 1 and No. 3 buttons.
4. While holding the buttons, push the PWR knob to on.
5. Release the buttons and the speaker check mode begins. A test tone should sound from one speakers as indicated on the display.
6. Each time you press the SEEK/SKIP button, the test moves to the next speaker in the order listed in the table.
NOTE: Adjust the volume level to a comfortable level.

7. The speaker check mode ends when you turn the audio unit off or turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
NOTE: The volume level remains at the same level when you did the speaker test. If you turned the volume up to do the speaker check mode test, return the volume to its normal level.
