Interior Trim Removal/Installation - Pillar Areas

A-Pillar Trim - Driver's Side
SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations Locations and the precautions and procedures Service and Repair before doing repairs or service.
NOTE:
- If side airbags and/or side curtain airbags have deployed, the affected pillar area trim and attachment clips must be replaced. Refer to Component Replacement/Inspection After Deployment Service and Repair.
- Follow the A-pillar trim installation procedure carefully; improper installation could cause the side curtain airbags to deploy improperly and possibly cause injury.
- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
- Take care not to bend or scratch the trim or the panels.
- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.
1. Remove the A-pillar trim (A).
1. Pull out the front door opening trim (B) as needed.
2. Pry the A-pillar cap (C) out while releasing the hooks (D) until it is stopped by the grommet (E).
3. Pull back the trim by hand to detach the clip.
4. Release the hooks on the grommet and pull out the cap. Discard the cap and the grommet.
2. If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the A-pillar trim and all of its clips with new parts Service and Repair.
3. Install the trim in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- If the clip is damaged or stress-whitened, replace it with a new one.
- Do not reuse the A-pillar cap and the grommet; always replace them.
- To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect the A-pillar trim (A) and replace it with a new one if it has any of the following damage:
- Any cracks, deformations, or stress-whitened areas in the A-pillar trim
- Any cracks, or stress-whitening in the grommet and the clip seating surfaces (B)
- Replace any damaged parts with new ones.
- Make sure the top of the trim overlaps with the headliner correctly.
- Push the clips into place securely.
A-Pillar Trim - Passenger's Side

NOTE:
- If side airbags and/or side curtain airbags have deployed, the affected pillar area trim and attachment clips must be replaced. Refer to Component Replacement/Inspection After Deployment Service and Repair.

1. Remove the grab handle (A).
1. Remove the caps (B) with the appropriate trim tool.
2. Remove the screws.
2. Remove the A-pillar trim (A).
1. Pull out the front door opening trim (B) as needed.
2. Pull back the trim by hand to detach the clips.
3. If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the A-pillar trim and all of its clips with new parts Service and Repair.
4. Install the trim in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- If the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones.
- To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect the A-pillar trim (A) and replace it with a new one if it has any of the following damage:
- Any cracks, deformations, or stress-whitened areas in the A-pillar trim
- Any cracks, or stress-whitening in the clip seating surfaces (B)
- Any damage around the grab handle holes (C) in the trim
- Any deformations in the grab handle (D)
- Any deformations in the grab handle bracket
- Replace any damaged parts with new ones.
- Make sure the top of the trim overlaps with the headliner correctly.
- Push the clips into place securely.
B-Pillar Upper/Lower Trim

NOTE:
- If side airbags and/or side curtain airbags have deployed, the affected pillar area trim and attachment clips must be replaced. Refer to Component Replacement/Inspection After Deployment Service and Repair.
- Put on gloves to protect your hands.
- Take care not to bend or scratch the trim or the panels.
- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.
1. Remove these items:
- Front door sill trim Service and Repair
- Rear door sill trim Service and Repair
- Front seat belt lower anchor, driver's seat belt
2. Remove the B-pillar lower trim (A).
1. Pull both upper edges of the trim outward to detach the clips.
2. While pulling both edges of the trim outward, pull out the trim.
3. Remove the grab handle (A).
1. Remove the caps (B) with the appropriate trim tool.
2. Remove the screws.
4. Remove the front seat belt upper anchor.
5. Remove the B-pillar upper trim (A).
1. Pull out the front door opening trim (B) and the rear door opening trim (C) as needed.
2. Pull back the bottom of the trim to detach the lower clip (D).
3. Pull out the top of the trim to detach the clip (E).
4. Lower the trim to release the upper two hooks (F) from the holes in the body, and disengage the top of the trim from the edge of the headliner (G).
6. Remove the bolts, then remove the grab handle bracket (A).
7. If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the B-pillar upper trim and all of its clips with new parts Service and Repair.
8. Install the trim in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- If the clips are damaged or stress-whitened, replace them with new ones.
- To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect the B-pillar upper/lower trim and replace it with a new one if it has any of the following damage:
- Any cracks, deformations, or stress-whitened areas in the B-pillar upper trim (A)
- Any cracks, or stress-whitening in the clip seating surfaces (B)
- Any cracks or deformations in the B-pillar lower trim (C), or any breakage in the portion (D) that overlaps the B-pillar upper trim
- Any damage around the grab handle holes (E) in the B-pillar upper trim
- Any deformations in the grab handle (F)
- Any deformations in the grab handle bracket (G)
- Make sure the top of the trim overlaps with the headliner correctly.
- Make sure the trim hooks are installed into the holes in the body securely.
- Push the clips into place securely.
- Apply medium strength liquid thread lock to the front seat belt upper and lower anchor bolts before installation.
- Before installing the anchor bolts, make sure there are no twists or kinks in the seat belt.
C-Pillar Trim

NOTE:
- If side airbags and/or side curtain airbags have deployed, the affected pillar area trim and attachment clips must be replaced. Refer to Component Replacement/Inspection After Deployment Service and Repair.

- Take care not to bend or scratch the trim or the panels.
- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.
1. Remove the rear seat-back.
2. Remove the rear trim panel (A).
1. Remove the clips (B).
2. Release the hooks (C) from the C-pillar trim on both sides.
3. Pull up the panel to detach the clips (D).
4. Pull out the rear center seat belt (E) through the slit (F) in the panel.
3. Remove the rear seat belt upper anchor.
4. Remove the C-pillar trim (A).
1. Pull out the rear door opening trim (B) as needed.
2. Pry the C-pillar cap (C) out while releasing the hooks (D) until it is stopped by the grommet (E).
3. Release the hooks (F) from the rear seat side trim (G) with the appropriate trim tool.
4. Pull out the trim to detach the clip.
5. Pull out the rear seat belt (H) through the slit (I) in the trim.
6. Release the hooks on the grommet, and pull out the cap. Discard the cap and the grommet.
5. If the side curtain airbag has deployed, replace the C-pillar trim and its clip with new parts Service and Repair.
6. Install the trim in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- If the clip is damaged or stress-whitened, replace it with a new one.
- Do not reuse the C-pillar cap and the grommet; always replace them.
- To prevent the side curtain airbags from deploying improperly and possibly causing injury, inspect the C-pillar trim (A) and replace it with a new one if it has any of the following damage:
- Any cracks, deformations, or stress-whitened areas in the C-pillar trim
- Any cracks, or stress-whitening in the clip seating surface (B)
- Any cracks, or stress-whitened areas in the grommet seating surface (C)
- Make sure the top of the trim overlaps the headliner correctly.
- Push the clip and the hooks into place securely.
- Apply medium strength liquid thread lock to the rear seat belt upper anchor bolts before installation.
- Before installing the anchor bolt, make sure there are no twists or kinks in the seat belt.
