Head Rest: Testing and Inspection

Front Seat Active Head Restraint Inspection

NOTE: If the vehicle has been in a collision, always inspect the active head restraint, even if they appear reusable, by doing the following procedure.

1. Driver's 10-way power seat: With the recline switch, move the seat-back fully forward, and adjust the head restraint to the highest position.

2. Passenger's manual seat/driver's manual height adjustable seat: Fold the seat-back forward, then recline the seat-back to the first lock position, and adjust the head restraint to the highest position.

3. Apply masking tape on the top of the head restraint.

4. Make a mark on the middle point of the top seam (A) in the head restraint (B) as a datum point (C).






5. Push the head restraint (A) forward, and measure the horizontal head restraint movement. The head restraint should move more than 50 mm (2.0 in) without resistance.






6. If it is less than 50 mm (2.0 in), or the head restraint does not move smoothly, remove the front seat Front Seat Removal/Installation, remove these items from the seat frame, then replace the seat frame:

- Seat-back cover/pad Front Seat-Back Cover/Pad Replacement
- Seat cushion cover/pad Front Seat Cushion Cover/Pad Replacement
- Seat belt buckle
- Side airbag Side Airbag Replacement
- ODS unit, passenger's manual seat ODS Unit Replacement
- Outer/inner seat track covers, outer/inner seat weight sensors, and recline/center inner covers, passenger's manual seat Front Seat Linkage Disassembly/Reassembly - Passenger's Manual
- Seat riser, upper rail outer/inner covers, and recline/center inner covers, driver's manual height adjustable seat Front Seat Linkage Disassembly/Reassembly - Driver's Manual Height Adjustable
- Seat riser, recline lower cover, center lower cover, and harness holder, driver's 10-way power seat Front Seat Linkage Disassembly/Reassembly - Driver's 10-Way Power
