Driver's or Front Passenger's Seat Creaks or Squeaks

SYMPTOM

The driver's seat, the front passengers seat, or both seats creak or squeak when the vehicle turns a corner or when the seat occupant shifts their body weight.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The seat track and seat riser rub against each other.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Apply wool felt to the top side of the seat risers.

REQUIRED MATERIALS

Wool Felt: P/N 06993-5A5-000
(One roll will repair about five seats.)

DIAGNOSIS

Test-drive the vehicle around corners, or grab the headrest and pull each front seat side to side to reproduce the customer complaint.

^ If the seat(s) creak or squeak, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.

^ If the seat(s) don't creak or squeak, this bulletin does not apply. Continue with normal troubleshooting.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Driver's seat only: Tilt the steering wheel all the way up.





2. Front passenger's seat: Slide the seat all the way forward, and remove the rear outer seat track cover from the back of the seat track by detaching the clips and releasing the hook.





3. Front passenger's seat: Remove the rear inner seat track cover from the back of the seat track by detaching the clips.





4. Front passenger's seat: Remove the bolt, and release the hook, then remove the lower anchor bracket from the outside front passenger's weight sensor.





5. Detach the clips and release the hooks, then remove the rear riser cover.

6. Slide the seat fully back to access the front riser covers.





7. Detach the clip and release the hook, and remove the front riser cover from both sides.

8. Remove the four mounting bolts securing the seat.

9. Cut four 50 x 80 mm pieces of wool felt.





10. Tilt the seat back, and apply a 50 x 80 mm piece of wool felt on each front seat riser.





11. Tilt the seat forward, and apply a 50 x 80 mm piece of wool felt to each rear seat riser.

12. Reinstall the mounting bolts, and torque them to 47 N.m (35 lb-ft).

13. Reinstall the front seat riser covers and the rear seat riser cover.

14. Front passenger's seat: Reinstall the lower anchor bracket, and torque the bolt to 47 N.m (35 lb-ft).

15. Front passenger's seat: Reinstall the rear inner and outer seat track covers.

16. If necessary, repeat steps 1 thru 15 for the other seat.
