Side Airbag Replacement
NOTE: If replacing the side airbag after deployment, refer to Component Replacement/Inspection After Deployment Service and Repair for a complete list of other parts that must be replaced.
Removal
1. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure Procedures, then wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.
2. Disconnect the side airbag harness 2P connector (A).
3. Remove the front seat Front Seat Removal/Installation.
4. Remove the back panel from behind the seat-back.
5. Release the hook strips, then loosen the seat-back cover.
6. Pull the side airbag harness out through the harness hole in the seat-back cover/pad.
7. Release the airbag attachment wire B (A) from the seat-back frame (B).
8. Remove the mounting nut (C) and the side airbag (D).
Installation
NOTE:
- If the side airbag lid is secured with a tape, remove the tape.
- Do not open the lid of the side airbag cover.
- Use new mounting nut tightened to the specified torque.
- If you are replacing a deployed airbag, replace the attachment wire A and B.
- Make sure that the seat-back cover/pad is installed properly. Improper installation may prevent proper deployment.
- Be sure to install the harness so that it is not pinched or interfering with other parts.
1. Place the side airbag (A) on the seat-back frame. Tighten the side airbag mounting nut (B).
2. Install the airbag attachment wire B (C) in the seat-back frame (D).
3. Reinstall the seat-back cover/pad in the reverse order of removal Front Seat-Back Cover/Pad Replacement.
4. Install the front seat Front Seat Removal/Installation.
5. Connect the side airbag harness 2P connector.
6. Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure Procedures.
7. Move the front seat and the seat-back through their full ranges of movement, making sure the harness are not pinched or interfering with other parts.
8. Clear any DTCs with the HDS.
9. After installing the side airbag, confirm proper system operation: Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator should comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
