Strut / Shock Tower: Service and Repair
Removal
- Remove the front wheelhouse.
- If necessary replace the wheelhouse upper member.
NOTE: When removing the wheelhouse upper member, leave the fender support bracket in place.
- Check the damper housing position, and check for damage.
- If necessary, replace the damper housing and damper housing extension as an assembly.
Installation
1. Set the new parts, and front bulkhead into position, and measure the front compartment diagonally. Check the body dimensions;
- Engine compartment
- Engine side mount position
- Engine compartment under view
- Repair chart top view
- Repair chart side view
2. Tack weld the new parts into position.
3. Temporarily install the front subframe, and check the front side frame position.
4. Temporarily install the hood, front fender, headlight, and front bumper, and check for differences in level and clearance.
5. Do the main welding.
- Weld the damper housing (A) and damper housing extension (B) to the dashboard upper (C) and inner lower pillar (D).
- Weld the damper housing and front side frame (E).
- From the passenger's side, plug weld the holes in the dashboard lower (F), damper housing.
6. Weld the front wheelhouse (A) to the damper housing (B) and front side frame (C).
7. Weld the wheelhouse upper member (A).
