Trailing Arm: Service and Repair




Rear Trailing Arm Removal/Installation

1. Raise and support the vehicle Service and Repair.

2. Remove the rear wheel.

3. Position a floor jack at the connecting point of the lower arm B and the knuckle. Raise the floor jack until the suspension begins to compress.





4. Remove the brake disc/drum Rear Brake Disc Replacement.

5. Remove the parking brake shoes assembly Removal and Replacement, and parking brake cable.

6. Disconnect the brake hose from the brake line (A).





7. Remove and discard the brake hose clip (B) from the brake hose (C).

NOTE: Use the new clip during reassembly.

8. Remove the parking brake cable (A) from the trailing arm (B).





9. Remove the flange bolts (C), and separate the knuckle from the trailing arm.

NOTE: Use the new flange bolts during reassembly.

10. Remove the trailing arm mounting bolts (D), and remove the trailing arm.

NOTE: Use the new mounting bolts during reassembly.

11. Install the trailing arm in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

- Tighten all mounting hardware to the specified torque.
- First install all the components and lightly tighten the bolts and nuts, then raise the suspension to load it with the vehicle's weight before fully tightening to the specified torque.
- Check the brake hose for interference and twisting.
- Before installing the wheel, clean the mating surfaces on the brake disc/drum and the inside of the wheel.
- Fill up the brake reservoir, and bleed the brake system Service and Repair.
- Inspect the parking brake, and adjust as needed Adjustments.
- After installation, check for leaks at the line joint, and retighten if necessary.

12. Check the wheel alignment, and adjust it if necessary Service and Repair.
