Passenger Airbag Replacement

REMOVAL
1. On models equipped with radio coded theft protection system, refer to Vehicle Damage Warnings for system disarming and arming procedures. On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable, then the positive cable, and wait at least three minutes.
3. Remove glove compartment.

4. Remove six mounting nuts, then carefully lift air bag out of instrument panel, Fig. 29.

INSTALLATION
1. Place air bag assembly into instrument panel, then loosely install six mounting nuts, Fig. 29.
2. Tighten upper four nuts first, then the lower two nuts to specifications. If there is some space between air bag assembly lid and instrument panel after tightening nuts, loosen lower mounting nuts and lightly press down air bag assembly. Then retighten lower mounting nuts.
3. Install glove compartment to instrument panel.
4. Connect battery positive cable, then the ground cable.
5. After installing air bag assembly, confirm proper system operation as follows:
a. Turn ignition switch to On position. SRS indicator light should come on for about six seconds, then go off.
b. Ensure both horn buttons work.
c. Test drive vehicle and ensure cruise control switches work.
6. On models equipped with radio coded theft protection system, refer to Vehicle Damage Warnings for system disarming and arming procedures.
