"Clunk" Noise From the Door Glass
(Supersedes 94-024, dated August 29, 1994)

SYMPTOM

A "clunk" noise when you roll the window down.

PROBABLE CAUSE

Excessive movement of the door glass in the regulator mount. (The window mechanism is designed to allow some movement of the glass where the glass holder mounts to the regulator.)

CORRECTIVE ACTION

[NEW] Replace the window glass mounting bolts. Adjust the door glass and the run channel.

1. Remove the door trim panel as described in steps 1 thru 9 on page 20-4 of the Service Manual Supplement.

[NEW] 2. Lower the window fully. Replace the glass mounting bolts at the window regulator (see PARTS INFORMATION). Apply DC-111 grease to the 0-rings on the mounting bolts before installing them.

3. Raise the window. Loosen the lower mounting bolts in the window regulator. Then move the regulator forward so the bolts are at the front of their mounting slots. Retighten the bolts to 10 Nm (1.0 kg-m, 7 lb-ft).

4. Lower the window a few inches. Put two pieces of masking tape on the outside of the glass in the locations shown.

5. Raise the window fully. Using the edge of the run channel as a guide, draw a line on each piece of masking tape.

6. Lower the window partially. Measure the distance from the line on each piece of tape to the edge of the glass.

^ If both measurements are 1.5 mm or more, the adjustment is OK; go to step 9.

^ If either measurement is less than 1.5 mm, go to step 7.

[NEW] 7. With the glass raised fully, loosen the two front run channel mounting bolts. Move (without forcing) the run channel rearward to increase its overlap with the glass. Tighten the mounting bolts to 8 Nm (0.8 kg-m, 6 lb-ft).

[NEW] 8. Raise and lower the window several times to check for binding or slow operation. If necessary, readjust the front run channel.

9. Reinstall the door trim panel and all related parts.
