Ignition Coil: Testing and Inspection

1. Turn the ignition switch OFF, and remove the distributor ignition (DI) cap.




2. Remove the two screws to disconnect the BLK/VEL and WHT/BLK wires from terminals A (+) and B (-) respectively.




3. Using an ohmmeter, measure resistance between the terminals. Replace the coil if the resistance is not within specifications.

NOTE: Resistance will vary with the coil temperature; specifications are at 68°F (20°C)

Primary Winding Resistance
Between A and B terminals: 0.45 - 0.55 Ohms

Secondary Winding Resistance
Between A and secondary winding terminals: 16.8 - 25.2 K Ohms
