BODY

Power Seat Will Not Move Forward or Backward

SYMPTOM

The driver's six-way power seat does not move forward or backward.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The seat track synchronizer cable and its cover are detached from the seat assembly.

VEHICLES AFFECTED

Coupe EX: Thru VIN 1HGCD7...TA028629
4-Door EX: Thru VIN 1HGCD5...TA217419
V6 LX: Thru VIN 1HGCE6...TA022586

DIAGNOSIS

Look for the synchronizer cable and cover under the driver's seat. If the cable is detached or missing, go to CORRECTIVE ACTION.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Align the seat track, and install a new synchronizer cable and cover (see PARTS INFORMATION).

1. Adjust the seat to its highest position, front and rear.

2. Remove the three seat track end covers and the seat mounting bolts. Leave all electrical connectors connected.

3. Lift the front of the seat with your hand, then remove and discard the synchronizer cable and cover.

4. Move the seat forward by pushing the seat switch forward. (This moves the inner seat track ahead of the outer track.)

5. Remove the cover from the new synchronizer cable. Temporarily insert one end of the cable into the inner seat track motor; insert the other end into the driven hole on the outer track.

6. Move the seat to the full rearward position by pushing the seat switch backward. (This moves the outer seat track to its full rearward position.)

7. Remove the new cable. Push the seat switch backward again to move the inner seat track to its full rearward position. (The inner and outer tracks are now aligned and in the full rearward position.)

8. Disconnect all electrical connectors under the seat. Carefully remove the seat from the car, and place it on a cloth-covered workbench.

9. Remove the four Torx-head bolts from the front of the inner seat track. Then, separate the seat frame from the track, and pull the track out so you have enough clearance to install the new cable.

10. Put its cover back on and reinstall the new cable. First, insert one end into the inner seat track motor; then insert the other end into the driven hole on the outer track.

11. Reinstall the seat frame into the track, then reinstall the Torx bolts and tighten them to 8-10 N.m (6-7 lb-ft).

12. Carefully place the seat in the car, and reconnect the electrical connectors.

13. Reinstall the seat bolts, and tighten them to 34 N.m (25 lb-ft).

14. Test the operation of the seat, then reattach the seat track end covers.
