Ball joint remover, 28 mm 07MAC-SLOA202
1. Raise the rear of the vehicle, and support it with safety stands in the proper locations.
2. Remove the rear wheel.
3. Remove the self-locking nut (A), cam plate (B), and adjusting bolt (C), then disconnect the control arm (D) from the frame.
4. Remove the lock pin (A) from the control arm ball joint, and remove the castle nut (B).
NOTE: During installation, install the new lock pin after tightening the castle nut.
5. Remove the control arm ball joint from the knuckle using the ball joint remover.
NOTE: Turn the control arm (C) outward to install the ball joint remover.
6. Remove the control arm.
7. Install the control arm in the reverse order of removal paying particular attention to the following items:
^ Be careful not to damage the ball joint boot when connecting the lower arm to the knuckle.
^ Use a new self-locking nut during reassembly.
^ First install all of the components, and lightly tighten the bolts and nuts, then raise the suspension to load it with the vehicle's weight before fully tightening it to the specified torque.
^ Tighten all mounting hardware to the specified torque values.
^ Before connecting the ball joint to the knuckle, degrease the threaded section and tapered portion of the ball joint pin, the connecting hole, the threaded section and matching surface of the castle nuts.
^ Tighten the castle nut to the lower torque value, then tighten only far enough to align the slot with the ball joint pin hole. Do not align by loosening the castle nut.
^ Reinstall the lock pin on the castle nut after torquing.
^ Before installing the wheel, clean the mating surface of the brake disc and the inside of the wheel.
^ Check the wheel alignment, and adjust it if necessary.
