Brake Drum: Service and Repair
Rear Brake Drum ReplacementNOTE: Keep any grease off the brake drum and brake shoes.
1. Raise the rear of the vehicle, and support it with safety stands in the proper locations.
2. Remove the rear wheel.
3. Release the parking brake, and remove the brake drum (A) from the hub bearing unit.
4. Install the brake drum in the reverse order of removal.
NOTE:
^ Before installing the brake drum, clean the mating surfaces of the rear hub bearing unit and the inside of the brake drum.
^ After installation, press the brake pedal several times to make sure the brakes work and self adjust the brake shoes. Do not drive before doing this procedure.
5. Clean the mating surfaces of the brake drum and the inside of the wheel, then install the rear wheel.
