Special Tools Required

KTC trim tool set SOJATP2014 *
* Available through the American Honda Tool and Equipment Program

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations and the precautions and procedures before doing repairs or service.

NOTE:
- Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when prying components.
- Have an assistant help you when removing and installing the dashboard/steering hanger beam.
- Take care not to scratch the dashboard, body and other related parts.
- Put on gloves to protect your hands.

1. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the audio system, then write down the audio presets.
2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, and wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.
3. Remove these items:
- Driver's dashboard lower cover
- Driver's dashboard undercover
- Passenger's dashboard undercover
- Center console
- Glove box
- Kick panel, both sides
- A-pillar trim, both sides
- Steering column
- Passenger's heater duct

4. Remove the bolt securing the under-dash fuse/ relay box (A).

5. Remove the rear heater upper duct (A).
1. Remove the insulator (B).
2. Detach the clips.
3. Lift the rear of the duct upward, then remove it.

Under-dash fuse/relay box

6. Disconnect the engine compartment wire harness connectors (A), floor wire harness connectors (B), roof wire harness connector (C), door wire harness connector (D), and EPS subwire harness connector (E) from the under-dash fuse/relay box (F) and from the dashboard wire harness in-line connectors.

7. From under the dash, disconnect the driver's door wire harness connectors (A), brake switch connector (B), accelerator pedal position sensor connector (C), and on M/T models, clutch switch connector(s) (D).

Middle portion (shift lever portion)

8. Disconnect the parking brake switch connector (A), shift lock solenoid connector (B) (A/T models), fuel pump connector (C), SRS control unit connector (D), secondary heated oxygen sensor connector (E), and detach the wire harness clips (F). Using a T30 Torx bit, remove the ground bolt (G).

Middle portion (passenger's side)

9. Inside the glove box opening, disconnect the recirculation control cable (A), mode control cable (B), and heater subharness connectors (C). From under the dashboard, disconnect the air mix control cable (D). Take care not to kink any cables.

Passenger's side

10. From under the dash, disconnect the ECM/PCM connectors.(A), engine wire harness connector (B), passenger's door wire harness connector (C), front SRS sensor subwire harness connector (D), and antenna connector (E).

11. Remove the bolts, then remove the brake pedal support member (A).

12. Remove the special bolts (A, B)from outside the passenger's door.
1. Remove the caps (C).
2. Loosen the special bolt until its threads have come off the fixed sleeve (D).The bolt will be screwed into the inside threads of the adjusting nut (E) by loosening the bolt. Because of the thread lock on the threads of the bolt, the bolt and adjusting nut will be fixed.
3. Loosen the bolt again to screw the adjusting nut into the fixed sleeve fully. This will provide a gap (F) between the adjusting nut and the body.
4. Remove the two rear special bolts (A).

NOTE: The forward bolt (B) can not be removed from the body because the passenger's door interferes with the removal of it. To prevent damaging the door and/or the bolt, do not move the door past the second detent position while the forward bolt is loosened.

13. If the adjusting nuts (A) are not screwed fully into the fixed sleeve when removing the special bolts, screw adjusting nuts into the fixed sleeve with a 21 mm open-end wrench.
In this case, the special bolt should be replaced with a new one because its thread lock is worn out.

14. From outside the driver's door, remove the caps (A), then remove the bolts (B, C). The forward B Bolt can be removed from the body by opening the driver's door to the third detent position to gain clearance.

15. Make sure the forward special bolt (A) on the passenger's side is free from the dashboard by pulling it outward.
16. Lift up on the dashboard (B) to release it from the guide pins (C).
17. Have an assistant holding the dashboard apart from the body, open the driver's door fully. Carefully remove the dashboard through the driver's door opening. Take care not to scratch the body with the adjusting nuts on passenger's side.

NOTE:
- Do not rest the dashboard on its lower center console opening, or it may be damaged. Lay it on its front or back.
- Push the forward bolt on the passenger's side into the body to prevent the bolt and/or the passenger's door from getting damage.

18. Install the dashboard in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:
- Open the driver's door fully, and insert the dashboard through the driver's door opening.
- Do not move the passenger's door past the second detent position while the forward bolt is loosened.
- Make sure the dashboard fits onto the guide pins correctly.
- Before tightening the bolts, make sure the wire harnesses are not pinched.
- Make sure the connectors are plugged in properly, and all of the cables are connected properly.
- If you screwed the adjusting nut into the fixed sleeve with an open end wrench to remove the dashboard, and any of the special bolts came off the adjusting nut before having screwed the adjusting nut fully into the fixed sleeve, replace the special bolt with a new one.
- Before reinstalling the dashboard, screw all of the adjusting nuts into the fixed sleeves fully by hand.
- After setting the dashboard on the body, reinstall all of the mounting bolts to the dashboard, tighten the center bracket and the driver's side bracket to the specified torque, then torque the special bolt (A) on the passenger's side.
- First screw the special bolt into the adjusting nut (B), they will be fixed because of the thread lock on the bolt. Continue tightening the bolt with the adjusting nut, the externally threaded nut is loosened from the fixed sleeve (C) until the nut contacts the inside face of the body. Then tighten the bolts again to the specified torque.
- If the adjusting nut doesn't contact the body while tightening the special bolt fully, the nut shouldn't be loosen with an open-end wrench. In this case, replace this special bolt with a new one.
- Adjust the recirculation control cable, mode control cable , and air mix control cable.
- Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
- Enter the anti-theft code for the audio system, then enter the audio presets.
- Set the clock.
- Check for any DTCs that may have been set during repairs, and clear them.
