Paddle Shifter + (Upshift Switch) Circuit Troubleshooting

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations, and the precautions and procedures before doing repairs or service.
1. Remove the steering wheel.
2. Check for continuity between cable reel subharness 13P connector terminals No. 6 and No. 9 while pressing paddle shifter + (upshift switch) and when the paddle shifter + is released.





Is there continuity while pressing the paddle shifter + and no continuity when the paddle shifter + is released?

YES - Go to step 5.

NO - Go to step 3.

3. Disconnect the paddle shifter + (upshift switch) connector.
4. Check for continuity between paddle shifter + (upshift switch) connector terminals while pressing the paddle shifter + and when the paddle shifter + is released.





Is there continuity while pressing the paddle shifter + and no continuity when the paddle shifter + is released?

YES - Replace the cable reel subharness.

NO - Replace the paddle shifter +.

5. Disconnect the dashboard wire harness 13P connector from the back of the cable reel.
6. Check for continuity dashboard wire harness 13P connector terminal No. 9 and body ground.





Is there continuity?

YES - Go to step 7.

NO - Repair open in the wire between dashboard wire harness 13P connector terminal No. 9 and ground (G403), or repair poor ground (G403).

7. Check for continuity between dashboard wire harness 13P connector terminal No. 6 and body ground.





Is there continuity?

YES - Repair short in the wire between dashboard wire harness 13P connector terminal No. 6 and PCM connector terminal E16.

NO - Go to step 8.

8. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and shift to S.
9. Measure the voltage between dashboard wire harness 13P connector terminal No. 6 and No. 9.





Is there battery voltage?

YES - Replace the cable reel.

NO - Go to step 10.

10. Measure the voltage between PCM connector terminal E16 and body ground.





Is there battery voltage?

YES - Check for loose or poor connections at PCM connector terminal E16. If the connection is OK, substitute a known-good PCM and recheck.

NO - Repair open in the wire between PCM connector terminal E16 and the dashboard wire harness 13P connector.
