Front Passenger's Seat-Back Pocket Is Torn

SYMPTOM

The front passenger's seat-back is torn at the edges of the pocket.

PROBABLE CAUSE

When folded down, the right rear seat head restraint makes contact with the front seat pocket.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the front passenger's seat-back cover.

Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Parts and Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the audio system or the navigation system (if equipped), and write down the radio station presets.

2. Make sure the ignition switch is in LOCK (0).

3. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then disconnect the positive cable.





4. Slide the front passenger's seat all the way forward. Carefully pry up on the bottom of the anchor cover to release the hooks and the tab, then remove the anchor cover.

5. Remove the lower anchor bolt and the track end covers from the rear of both seat tracks.

6. Slide the seat all the way backward, and remove the track end covers from the front of both seat tracks.

7. Remove the bolts from the seat tracks.





8. Lift up on the seat, then detach the harness clips from the floor wire harness. Disconnect the seat belt buckle switch connectors and the side airbag connector. Then disconnect the ODS unit harness connector.

9. Remove the head restraint.

10. With the help of an assistant, carefully remove the front seat through the front door opening.





11. From under the seat cushion, pull the outside portion of the seat cushion cover back, and release the hook and loop fastener.





12. From behind the seat-back, release the hook strip, and unzip the seat-cover.





13. Pull back the seat-back cover, then release the hook strips from the seat-back frame.





14. Release the two airbag wire attachments from the seat-back frame.





15. Pinch the tabs on the end of the head restraint guides, and remove the guides from the seat-back.

16. Remove the seat-back cover from the seat-back frame.

17. Install the new seat-back cover, and reinstall the head restraint guides.

18. Reinstall the seat, reconnect all connectors, tighten the seat mounting bolts to 34 N~m (25 lb-ft).

19. Reinstall the seat track end covers.

20. Reinstall the seat belt anchor bolt. Torque the anchor bolt to 32 N.m (24 lb-ft).

21. Reconnect the battery terminals.

22. Enter the anti-theft code(s) for the audio system or navigation system (if equipped), and reset the radio station presets.

23. Reinitialize the ODS unit:

^ Clear the DTC memory.

^ Make sure the front passenger's seat is dry. Set the seat-back in a normal position, and make sure there is nothing on the seat.

^ Make sure the ignition switch is in LOCK (0).

^ Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC).

^ Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

^ Make sure the HDS communicates with the vehicle and the SRS unit. If it does not troubleshoot the DIG circuit.

^ From the HDS main menu, select SRS, then Calibration. In the Calibration Menu, select ODS INITIALIZATION. Follow the screen prompts to initialize the ODS unit.

^ Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

^ Disconnect the HDC from the DLC.
