- Driver 07749-0010000
- Driver attachment 07948-SB00101
1. Remove all of the old liquid gasket from the lower block mating surfaces, the bolt, and the bolt holes.

2. Clean the lower block mating surfaces.

3. Check the connecting rod bearing clearance with Plastigage. Connecting Rod Bearing Replacement

4. Check the main bearing clearance with Plastigage. Crankshaft Main Bearing Replacement

5. Install the bearing halves in the engine block and the connecting rods.

6. Apply new engine oil to the main bearings and the rod bearings.

7. Hold the crankshaft so rod journal No. 2 and the rod journal No. 3 are straight up, and lower the crankshaft into the engine block.

8. Install the thrust washers (A) on both edges of the No. 4 main bearing recess.

9. Apply new engine oil to the threads of the connecting rod bolts.

10. Seat the rod journals into connecting rod No. 1 and the connecting rod No. 4. Install the bearing halves and the connecting rod caps and bolts finger-tight. Install the caps so the bearing recess is on the same side as the recess in the rod.

11. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise, and seat the rod journals into connecting rod No. 2 and the connecting rod No. 3. Install the bearing halves and the connecting rod caps and bolts finger-tight.

12. Tighten the connecting rod bolts in sequence to 25 N-m (2.5 kgf-m, 18 lbf-ft).

13. Tighten the connecting rod bolts an additional 90 °.

14. Apply liquid gasket, P/N 08717-0004, 08718-0001, 08718-0003, or 08718-0009, evenly to the engine block mating surface of the lower block.
NOTE: Do not install the parts if 5 minutes or more have elapsed since applying liquid gasket. Instead, reapply liquid gasket after removing the old residue.

15. Install the bearing halves and the lower block.

16. Apply new engine oil to the threads of the bearing cap bolts. Tighten the bearing cap bolts is sequence to 29 N-m (3.0 kgf-m, 22 lbf-ft).

17. Tighten the bearing cap bolts an additional 60 °.

18. Tighten the 8 mm bolts in sequence to 22 N-m (2.2 kgf-m, 16 lbf-ft).

19. Apply a light coat of new engine oil around the crankshaft oil seal.

20. Apply a light coat of new engine oil to the lip of the crankshaft oil seal.

21. Use the driver and the driver attachment to drive a new crankshaft oil seal squarely into the engine block to the specified installed height.

22. Measure the distance between the crankshaft (A) and the crankshaft oil seal (B).

23. Install the oil pump. Service and Repair

24. Install the cam chain. Cam Chain Installation
