Drivers Airbag Replacement




Driver's Airbag Replacement

Removal ('00-05 models)

NOTE: If replacing the driver's airbag after deployment, refer to Component Replacement/Inspection After Deployment for a complete list of other parts that must also be replaced.

1. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure, Procedures then wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.

2. Remove the access panel (A) from the steering wheel, then disconnect the driver's airbag 2P connector (B) from the cable reel 2P connector.






3. Remove the cover (A) from the steering wheel, remove the two TORX bolts (B) using a TORX T30 bit, then remove the driver's airbag (C).

4. Disconnect the horn connector from the steering wheel.






Removal ('06-09 models)

NOTE: If replacing the driver's airbag after deployment, refer to Component Replacement/Inspection After Deployment for a complete list of other parts that must also be replaced.

1. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure, Procedures then wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.

2. Remove the access panel (A) from the steering wheel, then disconnect the driver's airbag 4P connector (B) from the cable reel 4P connector.






3. Remove the cover (A) from the steering wheel, remove the two TORX bolts (B) using a TORX T30 bit, then remove the driver's airbag (C).

4. Disconnect the horn connector from the steering wheel.






Installation ('00-05 models)

1. Place the driver's airbag (A) in the steering wheel, and secure it with new TORX bolts (B). Install the covers (C).






2. Connect the driver's airbag 2P connector (A) to the cable reel 2P connector, then install the access panel (B) on the steering wheel.

3. Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure. Procedures

4. Clear any DTCs. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

5. After installing the airbag, confirm proper system operation:
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II); the SRS indicator should come on for about 6 seconds and then go off.

- Make sure the horn works.





Installation ('06-09 models)

1. Place the driver's airbag (A) in the steering wheel, and secure it with new TORX bolts (B). Install the covers (C).






2. Connect the driver's airbag 4P connector (A) to the cable reel 4P connector, then install the access panel (B) on the steering wheel.

3. Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure. Procedures

4. Clear any DTCs. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

5. After installing the airbag, confirm proper system operation:
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II); the SRS indicator should come on for about 6 seconds and then go off.

- Make sure the horn works.
