Driver's or Front Passenger's Seat Rattles or Clunks When It's Moved Forward or Backward, or When Driving Over Bumps

SYMPTOM

The driver's or front passenger's seat rattles or clunks when rocking or adjusting the seat forward or backward, or when driving over rough roads.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The seat mounting bolts are not tight enough.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Retighten all four seat mounting bolts to the new torque value.

DIAGNOSIS

Rock or adjust the seat backward and forward several times:

^ If the seat rattles or clunks, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.

^ If the seat does not rattle or clunk, this bulletin does not apply; continue with normal troubleshooting.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Re-torque all four front seat mounting bolts to 49 N.m (36 lb-ft).





NOTE:
Although the torque value listed in the 2009-2010 Fit Service Manual is 34 N.m (25 lb-ft), the increased torque value is recommended for vehicles within the affected VIN range with this symptom.

2. Rock or adjust the seat backward and forward to make sure the noise is gone.
