DTC Troubleshooting: B1836

DTC B1836:

Power Seat Position Sensor Circuit Short

NOTE: If you are troubleshooting multiple DTCs, be sure to follow the instructions in B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A Troubleshooting - B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A.

1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

2. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), and then back to ON (II).

3. Operate the power seat adjustment switch in all directions for at least 1 second each.

4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC B1836 indicated?

YES -

Go to step 5.

NO -

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections.

5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

6. Disconnect power seat control unit connector B (40P).

7. Disconnect these items.

- Slide motor/position sensor 6P connector

- Front up-down motor/position sensor 6P connector

- Rear up-down motor/position sensor 6P connector

- Recline motor/position sensor 5P connector

8. Check for continuity between power seat control unit connector B (40P) terminal No. 15 and body ground.





Is there continuity?

YES -

Repair a short to ground in the wire.

NO -

Go to step 9.

9. Check for continuity between recline motor/position sensor terminal No. 3 and the motor body.





Is there continuity?

YES -

Replace the recline motor/position sensor Front Seat Recline Motor Replacement.

NO -

Go to step 10.

10. Check for continuity between front up-down motor/position sensor, rear up-down motor/position sensor, and slide motor/position sensor terminal No. 4 and motor body.





Is there continuity?

YES -

If the front or rear up-down motor/position sensor is faulty, replace the seat frame assembly Front Seat Frame Replacement - Driver's Seat. If the recline motor/position sensor is faulty, replace the slide motor/position sensor Front Seat Slide Motor Replacement.

NO -

Replace the power seat control unit Testing and Inspection.
