Control System DTCs

EPS DTC Troubleshooting: 83-01, 83-02

DTC 83-01 : CAN Communication Failure
DTC 83-02 : CAN Communication Timeout Error

1. Problem verification:

-1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

-2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

-3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then turn it to ON (II) again.

-4. Wait 60 seconds or more.

-5. Check for DTCs with the HDS

Is DTC 83-01 or 83-02 indicated?
-YES- The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.
-NO- Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. If another DTC is indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.

2. Open wire check (F_CAN-H line, F_CAN-L line):

Open wire check (F_CAN-H line, F_CAN-L line)
-1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

-2. Disconnect the following connectors.





-3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.














Is there continuity?
-YES- The F_CAN-H wire and F_CAN-L wire are OK. Go to step 3.
-NO- Repair open in the wire between the EPS control unit and the VSA modulator-control unit.

3. EPS control unit check (update):

EPS control unit check (update)
-1. Reconnect the following connectors.





-2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

-3. Update the EPS control unit Programming and Relearning if it does not have the latest software.

-4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then turn it to ON (II) again.

-5. Wait 60 seconds or more.

-6. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC 83-01 or 83-02 indicated?
-YES- Replace the EPS control unit Service and Repair.
-NO- Troubleshooting is complete.
