Water Outlet Removal/Installation

Water Outlet Removal and Installation

Removal

1. Radiator Cap

1. Wait until the engine is cool, then carefully remove the radiator cap.

2. Vehicle Lift

1. Raise the vehicle on a lift, and make sure it is securely supported.

3. Radiator Coolant - Replacement

1. Loosen the drain plug (A), and drain the coolant.

4. Intake Air Pipe

1. Remove the intake air pipe.

5. Water Outlet Assembly

1. Remove the harness holder (A) from the cylinder head.

2. Disconnect the connector (B).

3. Disconnect the upper radiator hose (A) and the water bypass hose (B).

4. Remove the water outlet (A).

6. ECT Sensor 1

1. Remove ECT sensor 1 (A).

Installation

1. ECT Sensor 1

1. Install ECT sensor 1 (A) with a new O-ring (B).

2. Water Outlet Assembly

1. Remove all of the old liquid gasket from the water outlet mating surfaces, the bolts, and the bolt holes.

2. Clean and dry the water outlet mating surfaces.

3. Apply liquid gasket (P/N 08718-0004 or 08718-0009) to the cylinder head mating surface of the water outlet. Install the component within 5 minutes of applying the liquid gasket.

NOTE:
* Apply a 2.5 mm (0.098 in) diameter bead of liquid gasket along the broken line (A).
* If too much time has passed after applying the liquid gasket, remove the old liquid gasket and residue, then reapply new liquid gasket.

4. Install the water outlet (A).

5. Connect the upper radiator hose (A) and the water bypass hose (B).

6. Connect the connector (A).

7. Install the harness holder (B) to the cylinder head.

3. Intake Air Pipe

1. Install the intake air pipe.

4. Radiator Coolant - Replacement

1. Pour Honda Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 into the radiator up to the base of the filler neck.

NOTE (Except K24Z7 engine):
* Always use Honda Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2. Using a non-Honda coolant can result in corrosion, causing the cooling system to malfunction or fail.
* Honda Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 is a mixture of 50 % antifreeze and 50 % water. Do not add water.

NOTE (K24Z7 engine):
* Always use Honda Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2. Using a non-Honda coolant can result in corrosion, causing the cooling system to malfunction or fail.
* Honda Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 is a mixture of 50 % antifreeze and 50 % water. Do not add water.
* If the vehicle is regularly driven in very low temperatures (under -31 °F,-35 °C) a 60 % concentration of coolant should be used. To accomplish this, pour 1.6 L (0.4 US gal) of Honda Extreme Cold Weather Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 into the radiator first, then add Honda Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 until the radiator is full.

5. Maintenance Minder Reset

1. After doing all procedures, select the individual maintenance item you wish to reset with the HDS (See the Maintenance Minder General Information).
