Radiator: Service and Repair
Radiator Removal and Installation
Removal
1. Radiator Cap
1. Wait until the engine is cool, then carefully remove the radiator cap.
2. Vehicle Lift
1. Raise the vehicle on a lift, and make sure it is securely supported.
3. Splash Shield
1. Remove the splash shield (A).
4. Radiator Coolant - Replacement
1. Loosen the drain plug (A), and drain the coolant.
5. Radiator Mounting Bracket, Upper Both
1. Remove the radiator mount upper brackets/cushions (A), and the A/C condenser upper mount brackets (B).
6. Bulkhead - Removal
1. Disconnect the connectors (A).
2. Remove the harness clamps (B).
3. Remove the bulkhead (A).
7. Radiator Assembly
1. Disconnect the upper radiator hose (A).
2. Disconnect the lower radiator hose (A).
3. Remove the harness clamp (B).
4. Pull up the radiator assembly.
8. Coolant Reservoir
1. Remove the coolant reservoir.
9. A/C Condenser Fan Shroud Assembly
1. Remove the A/C condenser fan shroud assembly.
10. Radiator Fan Shroud Assembly
1. Remove the radiator fan shroud assembly.
11. ECT Sensor 2 - for Radiator After Removing
1. Remove ECT sensor 2.
Installation
1. ECT Sensor 2 - for Radiator After Removing
1. Install ECT sensor 2.
2. Radiator Fan Shroud Assembly
1. Install the radiator fan shroud assembly.
3. A/C Condenser Fan Shroud Assembly
1. Install the A/C condenser fan shroud assembly.
4. Coolant Reservoir
1. Install the coolant reservoir.
5. Radiator Assembly
1. Install the radiator assembly.
2. Check the quick connector (A) and the set ring (B) for cracks or damage. If the quick connector and/or the set ring are cracked or damaged, replace the quick connector.
3. Make sure the set ring is in place inside the quick connector. If the set ring is off the quick connector, replace the quick connector.
4. Replace a new O-ring (C) in the quick connector.
5. Check the lock (D). If the lock is damaged or deformed, replace it. When installing the new lock on the quick connector, push it straight down along the groove.
6. Clean the connecting surface of the thermostat cover (E), then apply clean engine coolant around the connecting surface.
7. Install the harness clamp (A).
8. Connect the lower radiator hose (B).
9. Connect the upper radiator hose (A).
6. Bulkhead - Installation
1. Install the bulkhead (A).
2. Install the harness clamps (A).
3. Connect the connectors (B).
7. Radiator Mounting Bracket, Upper Both
1. Install the radiator mount upper bracket/cushion (A), and the brackets (B).
8. Splash Shield
1. Install the splash shield (A).
9. Radiator Coolant - Replacement
1. Pour Honda Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 into the radiator up to the base of the filler neck.
NOTE (Except K24Z7 engine):
* Always use Honda Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2. Using a non-Honda coolant can result in corrosion, causing the cooling system to malfunction or fail.
* Honda Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 is a mixture of 50 % antifreeze and 50 % water. Do not add water.
NOTE (K24Z7 engine):
* Always use Honda Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2. Using a non-Honda coolant can result in corrosion, causing the cooling system to malfunction or fail.
* Honda Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 is a mixture of 50 % antifreeze and 50 % water. Do not add water.
* If the vehicle is regularly driven in very low temperatures (under -31 °F,-35 °C) a 60 % concentration of coolant should be used. To accomplish this, pour 1.6 L (0.4 US gal) of Honda Extreme Cold Weather Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 into the radiator first, then add Honda Long Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 until the radiator is full.
10. Maintenance Minder Reset
1. After doing all procedures, select the individual maintenance item you wish to reset with the HDS (See the Maintenance Minder General Information).
