Front Passenger's Airbag Removal and Installation

Removal

NOTE:
* SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations Locations and the precautions and procedures Service and Repair before doing repairs or service.
* If replacing the front passenger's airbag after deployment, refer to Component Removal, Installation, and Inspection After Deployment for a complete list of other parts that must also be replaced.

1. Battery Terminal (SRS) - Disconnection





1. Make sure the ignition switch is in LOCK (0).

2. Disconnect and isolate the negative cable and battery sensor (A) from the battery (B).

NOTE: Always disconnect the negative side first.

3. Disconnect the positive cable (C) from the battery.

4. Wait at least 3 minutes before starting work.

2. A-Pillar Trim





1. Pull out the A-pillar trim (A) to release the clips.





2. Put a shop towel (A) in the opening between the A-pillar trim (B) and the dashboard to prevent dropping the A-pillar clips.





3. Remove the A-pillar trim (A).

NOTE: The upper clip (B) will stay in the body.





4. Remove the upper clip (A) from the body.

3. Glove Box - Move





1. Lower the glove box (A).

4. Front Passenger's Airbag Assembly





1. Disconnect the front passenger's airbag inflator connector (A) on the dashboard wire harness.

2. Remove the mounting nuts.









3. Gently remove the front passenger's airbag and lid assembly (A).

NOTE: The airbag lid has clips on each side where it attaches to the dashboard.

5. Front Passenger's Airbag





1. Cut the four parts of the front passenger's lid as shown (A), and remove the front passenger's airbag.

NOTE:
* Always replace the lid whenever you remove the airbag from the lid.
* Replace the airbag if the clips or its housing is damaged.

Installation

NOTE: SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations Locations and the precautions and procedures Service and Repair before doing repairs or service.

1. Front Passenger's Airbag





1. Insert the front passenger's airbag housing (A) into the new front passenger's lid (B).

NOTE:
* Make sure there are no objects between the airbag and the lid.
* Make sure the airbag is fully seated, and make sure the lid is not deformed or damaged after the airbag is in place.
* Replace the airbag if the clips or its housing is damaged.
* Do not use tools when detaching the front passenger's airbag in order to protect it.
* Make sure the hooks are set properly.

2. Front Passenger's Airbag Assembly





1. Place the front passenger's airbag and lid as an assembly (A) into the dashboard.

2. Tighten the new mounting nuts.





3. Connect the front passenger's airbag inflator connector (A) on the dashboard wire harness.

3. Glove Box - Move





1. Install the glove box (A).

4. A-Pillar Trim





1. Carefully install the new upper clip (A) to the A-pillar trim (B).





2. Install the A-pillar trim (A).

NOTE:
* Make sure the side curtain airbag is not tucked under the clips or the trim ribs.
* Do not push too hard on the A-pillar trim. If you push too hard, the clip will be damaged, and it will not hold the trim properly.
* Gently tug on the A-pillar trim to verify that all clips are securely fastened.

5. Battery Terminal (SRS) - Reconnection





NOTE: If the battery performs abnormally, test the battery.

1. Clean the battery terminals.

2. Connect the positive cable (A) to the battery (B).

NOTE: Always connect the positive side first.

3. Connect the negative cable and battery sensor (C) to the battery.

4. Apply multipurpose grease to the terminals to prevent corrosion.

6. HDS DLC - Connection





1. Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) (A) located under the driver's side of the dashboard.

2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

3. Make sure the HDS communicates with the vehicle. If it does not communicate, go to the DLC circuit troubleshooting.

7. DTC - Clear

1. Clear the DTC(s) by following the screen prompts on the HDS.

2. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then wait for 10 seconds.

8. Confirm Proper SRS Operation

Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and check that the SRS indicator comes on for about 6 seconds and then goes off.
