Navigation System Symptom Troubleshooting - Rearview camera image does not come on or work properly

Rearview camera image does not come on or work properly

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

Does the navigation screen come on and show an image when the vehicle is started?

YES -

Go to step 2.

NO -

Go to No picture is displayed troubleshooting Symptom Troubleshooting.

2. Go into the System Diagnostic Mode, and use the System Links diagnosis to check the connection between the navigation display unit and the rearview camera.

Is the R-camera link on the screen?

YES -

Go to step 3.

NO -

Go to step 21.

3. Confirm the system connection.

Is the R-camera link red on the screen?

YES -

Do the DTC 1701 (R-Camera Error) troubleshooting 1701.

NO -

Go to step 4.

4. Go into the System Diagnostic Mode, and use the Car Status diagnosis to check the BACK signals.

Does the BACK signal change from [0] to [1] when the shift lever position is changed from P or N to R?

YES -

Go to step 9.

NO -

Go to step 5.

5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

6. Disconnect navigation unit connector A (8P).

7. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

8. Measure the voltage between navigation unit connector A (8P) terminal No. 8 and body ground when the shift lever is in R.





Is there battery voltage?

YES -

Replace the navigation unit Service and Repair.

NO -

Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between the navigation unit and the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.

9. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

10. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the navigation display unit 28P connector and the rearview camera 6P connector.

Are there connections or terminals OK?

YES -

Go to step 11.

NO -

Repair poor connections or loose terminals, and recheck.

11. Disconnect the navigation display unit 28P connector and the rearview camera 6P connector.

12. Check for continuity between the navigation display unit 28P connector and the rearview camera 6P connector according to the table.













Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 13.

NO -

There is an open in the wire between the navigation display unit and the rearview camera. Repair or replace the affected harness.

13. Check for continuity between the terminals of the navigation display unit 28P connector according to the table.









Is there continuity between any of the terminals?

YES -

There is a short in the wires between the navigation display unit and the rearview camera. Replace the affected shielded harness.

NO -

Go to step 14.

14. Check for continuity between the navigation display unit 28P connector and body ground according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

There is a short in the wire between the navigation display unit and the rearview camera. Replace the affected shielded harness.

NO -

Go to step 15.

15. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

16. Measure the voltage between the navigation display unit 28P connector and body ground according to the table.









Is there 0.5 V or more?

YES -

There is a short to power in the wires between the navigation display unit and the rearview camera. Replace the affected shielded harness.

NO -

Go to step 17.

17. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

18. Reconnect the navigation display unit 28P connector.

19. Substitute a known-good rearview camera Service and Repair.

20. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and check the rearview camera image in shift lever position is R.

Is the rearview image OK?

YES -

Replace the original rearview camera Service and Repair.

NO -

Replace the navigation display unit Service and Repair.

21. Go into the System Diagnostic Mode, and use Version.

22. Check the model code that is displayed.

Is the correct navigation unit model code displayed for this vehicle?

YES -

Go to step 23.

NO -

The wrong navigation unit is installed. Replace the navigation unit Service and Repair with the correct part.

23. Remove the navigation DVD from the navigation unit, and check the label color of the navigation DVD.

Is the navigation DVD label white (or possibly gray for Canada)?

YES -

Reinsert the navigation DVD, and go to step 1.

NO -
