Booming sound while driving with audio unit on or off

NOTE:

- Check the vehicle battery condition first Battery Test.
- Check for all system's DTCs first with the HDS. If there are any DTCs stored, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.
- Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.

1. Start the engine.

2. Turn on the audio system, and test-drive the vehicle.

Is a booming sound or a low-frequency hum heard from the speaker(s)?

YES -

Go to step 3.

NO -

Operation is normal.

3. Turn the audio unit off.

4. Make sure all doors, hood, and the tailgate are closed.

5. Start the engine, and let it idle.

6. Do the ANC/Active Sound Control System Check Mode in the Self-Diagnostic Function.

7. Check the test items on tests 1 through 8.

NOTE: Move on to the next test item within 50 seconds, or the self-diagnostic test ends.

Do you hear a low-frequency hum sound from the speakers for more than 5 seconds for all test items?

YES -

Go to step 8.

NO -

Go to the appropriate step listed:

- If all the tests failed, go to step 14.
- If the 3rd tests failed, go to step 28.
- If the 4th tests failed, go to step 33.
- If the 5th tests failed, go to step 38.
- If the 6th tests failed, go to step 48.
- If the 7th tests failed, go to step 59.
- If the 8th tests failed, go to step 70.

8. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

9. Start the engine, and let it idle.

10. Do the ANC/Active Sound Control System Check Mode in the Self-Diagnostic Function.

11. Do the 10th test by pressing the No. 1 button.

12. Set the parking brake, and hold the engine speed at 2,500 rpm (in P or N), and move on to the 11th test by pressing the No. 1 button.

13. Press the No. 1 button several times to turn the ANC on and off.

Do you hear a change in the engine pitch?

YES -

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals between the audio unit, the PCM, and the gauge control module. Then, go to step 1 and recheck.

NO -

Replace the audio unit:

- With navigation Audio Unit Removal/Installation (With Navigation).
- Without navigation Audio Unit Removal/Installation (Without Navigation).

14. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

15. Connect a voltmeter between stereo amplifier connector A (24P) terminals No. 2 and No. 15.

NOTE: Use the voltmeter in AC range.





16. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

17. Do the ANC/Active Sound Control System Check Mode in the Self-Diagnostic Function.

18. Measure voltage during the 1st test with the display indicating OFF (press the No. 1 button to switch from ON to OFF).

NOTE: Measure voltage within 50 seconds after you started the 1st test OFF.

Is there about 0.5 V?

YES -

Replace the stereo amplifier Service and Repair.

NO -

Go to step 19.

19. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

20. Connect a voltmeter between stereo amplifier connector A (24P) terminals No. 1 and No. 14.

NOTE: Use the voltmeter in AC range.





21. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

22. Do the ANC/Active Sound Control System Check Mode in the Self-Diagnostic Function.

23. Measure voltage during the 1st test with the display indicating OFF (press the No. 1 button to switch from ON to OFF).

NOTE: Measure voltage within 50 seconds after you started the 1st test OFF.

Is there about 0.2 V?

YES -

Replace the stereo amplifier Service and Repair.

NO -

Go to step 24.

24. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

25. Disconnect audio unit connector C (16P) and stereo amplifier connector A (24P).

26. Check for continuity between audio unit connector C (16P) and stereo amplifier connector A (24P) according to the table.













Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 27.

NO -

There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the stereo amplifier. Replace the affected shielded harness.

27. Check for continuity between audio unit connector C (16P) and body ground according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the stereo amplifier. Replace the affected shielded harness.

NO -

Replace the audio unit:

- With navigation Audio Unit Removal/Installation (With Navigation).
- Without navigation Audio Unit Removal/Installation (Without Navigation).

28. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

29. Disconnect audio unit connector C (16P) and stereo amplifier connector A (24P).

30. Check for continuity between audio unit connector C (16P) and stereo amplifier connector A (24P) according to the table.













Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 31.

NO -

There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the stereo amplifier. Replace the affected shielded harness.

31. Check for continuity between body ground and audio unit connector C (16P) terminals No. 15 and No. 16 individually.





Is there continuity?

YES -

There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the stereo amplifier. Replace the affected shielded harness.

NO -

Go to step 32.

32. Check for continuity between audio unit connector C (16P) terminals No. 15 and No. 16.





Is there continuity?

YES -

There is a short in the wires between the audio unit and the stereo amplifier. Replace the affected shielded harness.

NO -

Replace the audio unit:

- With navigation Audio Unit Removal/Installation (With Navigation).
- Without navigation Audio Unit Removal/Installation (Without Navigation).

33. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

34. Disconnect audio unit connector C (16P) and stereo amplifier connector A (24P).

35. Check for continuity between audio unit connector C (16P) and stereo amplifier connector A (24P) according to the table.













Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 36.

NO -

There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the stereo amplifier. Replace the affected shielded harness.

36. Check for continuity between body ground and audio unit connector C (16P) terminals No. 7 and No. 8 individually.





Is there continuity?

YES -

There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the stereo amplifier. Replace the affected shielded harness.

NO -

Go to step 37.

37. Check for continuity between audio unit connector C (16P) terminals No. 7 and No. 8.





Is there continuity?

YES -

There is a short in the wires between the audio unit and the stereo amplifier. Replace the affected shielded harness.

NO -

Replace the audio unit:

- With navigation Audio Unit Removal/Installation (With Navigation).
- Without navigation Audio Unit Removal/Installation (Without Navigation).

38. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

39. Connect a voltmeter between audio unit connector C (16P) terminal No. 5 and body ground.

NOTE: Use the voltmeter in AC range.






40. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

41. Make a loud noise in front of the front ANC/active sound control microphone.

Does the voltage change when making a loud noise in front of the microphone?

YES -

Replace the audio unit:

- With navigation Audio Unit Removal/Installation (With Navigation).
- Without navigation Audio Unit Removal/Installation (Without Navigation).

NO -

Go to step 42.

42. Measure the voltage between body ground and front HFL-navigation-ANC/active sound control microphone 7P connector or front HFL-ANC/active sound control microphone 7P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2 individually.





Is there battery voltage?

YES -

Go to step 43.

NO -

If the+B wire does not have voltage, repair an open in the wire between the No. A15 (10 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box and the front HFL-navigation-ANC/active sound control microphone or the front HFL-ANC/active sound control microphone. If the ACC wire does not have voltage, repair an open in the wire between the No. B18 (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box and the front HFL-navigation-ANC/active sound control microphone or the front HFL-ANC/active sound control microphone.

43. Measure the voltage between the front HFL-navigation-ANC/active sound control microphone 7P connector or front HFL-ANC/active sound control microphone 7P connector terminal No. 7 and body ground.





Is there less than 0.2 V?

YES -

Go to step 44.

NO -

Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between the front HFL-navigation-ANC/active sound control microphone or the front HFL-ANC/active sound control microphone and body ground (G401).

44. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

45. Disconnect audio unit connector C (16P) and the front HFL-navigation-ANC/active sound control microphone 7P connector or the front HFL-ANC/active sound control microphone 7P connector.

46. Check for continuity between audio unit connector C (16P) terminal No. 5 and front HFL-navigation-ANC/active sound control microphone 7P connector or front HFL-ANC/active sound control microphone 7P connector terminal No. 4.





Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 47.

NO -

There is an open in the wire between the audio unit and the front HFL-navigation-ANC/active sound control microphone or the front HFL-ANC/active sound control microphone. Replace the affected shielded harness.

47. Check for continuity between audio unit connector C (16P) terminal No. 5 and body ground.





Is there continuity?

YES -

There is a short to body ground in the wire between the audio unit and the front HFL-navigation-ANC/active sound control microphone or the front HFL-ANC/active sound control microphone. Replace the affected shielded harness.

NO -

- With navigation, replace the front HFL-navigation-ANC/active sound control microphone Front HFL-Navigation-ANC/Active Sound Control Microphone Removal / Installation.
- Without navigation, replace the front HFL-ANC/active sound control microphone Front HFL-ANC/Active Sound Control Microphone Removal / Installation.

48. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

49. Connect a voltmeter between audio unit connector C (16P) terminals No. 4 and No. 13.

NOTE: Use the voltmeter in AC range.






50. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

51. Make a loud noise in front of the rear ANC/active sound control microphone.

Does the voltage change when making a large noise in front of the microphone?

YES -

Replace the audio unit:

- With navigation Audio Unit Removal/Installation (With Navigation).
- Without navigation Audio Unit Removal/Installation (Without Navigation).

NO -

Go to step 52.

52. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

53. Disconnect audio unit connector C (16P) and the rear ANC/active sound control microphone 2P connector.

54. Connect rear ANC/active sound control microphone 2P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2 with a jumper wire.






55. Check for continuity between audio unit connector C (16P) terminals No. 4 and No. 13.





Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 56.

NO -

There is an open in the wire between the audio unit and the rear ANC/active sound control microphone. Replace the affected shielded harness.

56. Remove the jumper wire.

57. Check for continuity between audio unit connector C (16P) terminals No. 4 and No. 13.





Is there continuity?

YES -

There is a short in the wire between the audio unit and the rear ANC/active sound control microphone. Replace the affected shielded harness.

NO -

Go to step 58.

58. Check for continuity between audio unit connector C (16P) terminal No. 4 and body ground.





Is there continuity?

YES -

There is a short to body ground in the wire between the audio unit and the rear ANC/active sound control microphone. Replace the affected shielded harness.

NO -

Replace the rear ANC/active sound control microphone.

59. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

60. Start the engine, and let it idle.

61. Measure voltage between audio unit connector C (16P) terminal No. 10 and body ground.





Is there about 5 V (pulses)?

YES -

Replace the audio unit:

- With navigation Audio Unit Removal/Installation (With Navigation).
- Without navigation Audio Unit Removal/Installation (Without Navigation).

NO -

Go to step 62.

62. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

63. Disconnect audio unit connector C (16P).

64. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.

65. Disconnect PCM connector A (49P).

66. Connect PCM connector A (49P) terminal No. 33 to body ground with a jumper wire.






67. Check for continuity between audio unit connector C (16P) terminal No. 10 and body ground.





Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 68.

NO -

Repair an open in the wire between the audio unit and the PCM.

68. Remove the jumper wire.

69. Check for continuity between audio unit connector C (16P) terminal No. 10 and body ground.





Is there continuity?

YES -

Repair a short to body ground in the wire between the audio unit and the PCM.

NO -

Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software PCM Update, or substitute a known-good PCM.

70. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

71. Do the MICU input test to check the B-CAN line between the audio unit and the driver's MICU Drivers and Passengers MICU Input Test.

Is the B-CAN line between the audio unit and the driver's MICU OK?

YES -

Replace the audio unit:

- With navigation Audio Unit Removal/Installation (With Navigation).
- Without navigation Audio Unit Removal/Installation (Without Navigation).

NO -

Repair an open in the wire between audio unit connector B (20P) and driver's MICU connector P (20P).
