Transfer Case - Leaks/Low Power/Vehicle Won't Move

Transfer Case Bushing/Slip Yoke Leak, Transmission Downshifting, Loss of Power, Vehicle Will Not Move (Replace Damaged Components/Install New Longer Style Propeller Shaft)

Models:
2003 HUMMER H2

Condition

Some customers may comment on any of the following conditions:

^ Transfer case leak

^ Transmission downshifting

^ Loss of power

^ Vehicle will not move

^ A major component failure

Cause

Design tolerances may lead to insufficient lubrication of the rear output shaft bushing in the transfer case.

Correction

Use the following SI procedures to correct the condition.

1. Refer to SI document ID # 821933 to remove the transfer case.

2. Refer to SI document ID # 857284 to replace the rear case half, the rear output seal and inspect and replace transfer case components as necessary.

3. Refer to SI document ID # 821933 to install the transfer case.

4. Replace the propeller shaft with a new longer style propeller shaft. The tube portion of the propeller shaft is 19 mm (0.75 in).
