Filler Panel Replacement - Rear Bumper

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the license plate pocket.
2. Remove the spare tire from the carrier assembly (2).




3. Disconnect the rear license plate harness connector behind the rear bumper.
4. Release the harness grommet from the rear bumper cover.
5. Open and remove the spare tire carrier from the spare tire carrier mounts.




6. Remove the spare tire carrier mounts (2, 3) from the rear bumper bar (4).
7. Remove the rear bumper. Refer toBumper Replacement - Rear (SUT) (Bumper Replacement - Rear (SUT))Bumper Replacement - Rear (SUV) (Bumper Replacement - Rear (SUV)) .




8. Remove the inner wheelhouse panel lower 2 rear bolts in order to access the bumper end cap bolts.




9. Remove the right side filler panel push-in retainers (2) first.
10. Remove the right side filler panel screws.
11. Remove the right side filler panel nuts (4) from the outer edge.
12. Remove the right filler panel from the vehicle.
13. Remove the left side filler panel push-in retainers (6).
14. Remove the left side filler panel screws.
15. Remove the left outer filler panel nuts (7).
16. Remove the left side filler panel (5) from the outer body panel (1).



Installation Procedure

1. Position the left side filler panel (5) to the outer body panel (1).




2. Install the push-in retainers (6) in order to secure the filler panel (5) to the body panel.
3. Install the left side outer panel nuts.

Notice: Refer toFastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

4. Install the nuts (7).

Tighten the nuts to 10 Nm (89 lb in).

5. Position the right side filler panel (3) to the outer body panel (1).
6. Install the push-in retainers (2) to the outer body panel (1).
7. Install the right side filler panel screws.
8. Install the nuts (4).

Tighten the nuts to 10 Nm (89 lb in).

9. Install the inner wheelhouse panel lower bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb in).

10. Install the rear bumper. Refer toBumper Replacement - Rear (SUT) (Bumper Replacement - Rear (SUT))Bumper Replacement - Rear (SUV) (Bumper Replacement - Rear (SUV)) .




11. Install the spare tire carrier mounts (2, 3).

Tighten the bolts to 85 Nm (63 lb ft).

12. Install the rear tire carrier to the mounts. Secure the bolt.




13. Connect the rear license plate harness connector.
14. Secure the harness grommet to the rear bumper.
15. Install the spare tire to the carrier frame.

Tighten the nuts to 70 Nm (52 lb ft).





16. Install the license plate pocket (3). Refer toLicense Plate Pocket Replacement (SUV) (License Plate Pocket Replacement (SUV))License Plate Pocket Replacement (SUT) (License Plate Pocket Replacement (SUT)) .
17. Latch and secure the rear spare tire carrier.
