This TSB supersedes TSB # 90-40-006 to provide additional labor operation time for scan tool use.
DESCRIPTION:
Some 1998 automatic transaxle Tiburon vehicles produced between 8/13/97 and 2/28/98 may have Diagnostic Code (DTC) PO748 stored in memory in the Transaxle Control Module (TCM). If a vehicle has DTC PO748 stored in memory in the TCM, follow the repair procedure below
If the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is illuminated and an additional DTC is stored in memory in the TCM, follow the procedure in the appropriate Shop Manual or Fault Code Diagnostic Manual to repair the DTC before performing the repair procedure described below
SERVICE PROCEDURE:
1. Record the customer's pre-set radio stations and remove the battery.
2. Disconnect the E35 connector from the left front headlamp.
3. Connect the two connectors of the field fix kit between the left front headlamp and the E35 connector.
4. Remove the ground bolt at G04.
5. Attach the ground wire of the field fix kit to the original ground wires (at G04) and reinstall the ground bolt. Tighten the bolt to specification (9-11 Nm (93-110 kg.cm, 6.5-8.0 lb.ft)).
6. Use the tie-wrap included in the kit to attach the field fix kit to the turn signal wire to prevent contact with the battery.
7. Reinstall the battery and reset the customer's radio stations and clock.
