DESCRIPTION:

Some 2002 and 2003 MY Sonata vehicles contain either:

^ An incorrect size temporary spare tire and an incorrect tire inflation pressure label, or

^ An incorrect tire inflation pressure label

This bulletin provides two procedures to correct the affected vehicles.





AFFECTED VEHICLES:

^ Model: 2002-2003 MY SONATA vehicles with ABS and TCS





PARTS INFORMATION:

SERVICE PROCEDURE A:

NOTE:
Verify that the vehicle was manufactured within the affected production date and VIN range.

Procedure A-1: Temporary spare tire replacement:





1. Open the trunk lid.

2. Remove the luggage covering board.

3. Remove the temporary spare tire.





4. Deflate the tire.





5. Press the tire sidewall while rotating the tire surface to loosen the tire bead's attachment to the wheel rim.





6. Separate the tire upper surface from the wheel.

NOTE:
Be careful not to damage the tire and wheel while removing the tire.





7. Separate the wheel lower portion and then remove the tire from the wheel.





8. Prepare the new tire (Size: T125/80 R15) by applying soapy water along the bead seating surface of the wheel.





9. Install the new tire onto the wheel.

NOTE:
Be careful not to damage the tire and wheel while installing the tire.





10. Inflate the tire to 60 psi.





11. Carefully remove the label on the wheel.

12. Clean any adhesive remaining on the wheel surface using a rag dampened with rubbing alcohol to soften the adhesive.

13. Remove the loosened adhesive with a dry paper towel.

14. Repeat these steps until the adhesive is completely removed.





15. Apply a new spare wheel and tire caution label in the same location.





16. Install the temporary spare tire in the vehicle trunk.

17. Install the luggage covering board.

18. Close the trunk.

PROCEDURE A-2: Tire inflation pressure label replacement:





1. Locate the original tire inflation pressure label at the lower edge of the driver's side door as shown.

2. Remove the label by peeling the label from a top corner, pulling it downward at an angle toward the other side. Pull with the label folded back 1800 on itself.

3. Clean any adhesive remaining on the wheel surface using a rag dampened with rubbing alcohol to soften the adhesive.

4. Remove the loosened adhesive with a dry paper towel.

5. Repeat these steps until the adhesive is completely removed.





6. Apply a new tire inflation pressure label in the same location.

7. Close the driver side door.
