Detailed Information For PPD Interface Unit

Before and After Procedure

1. The ignition key should already be off and the battery negative terminal should already be removed before continuing. Tilt the seat back far enough to allow room to work under it.

2. Remove and discard the wire ties from the:

^ air bag floor wire harness

^ PPD floor wire harness

^ PPD grid wire harness

3. Remove the air bag connector from the connector clip.

4. Remove the connector clip from the seat frame and discard it.

5. Disconnect the PPD connector from the floor wire harness.

6. Use electrical tape to tape the end of the corrugated tube to the end of the air bag floor wire harness connector. Push the tube up against the connector and wrap the tape first around the bottom of the connector, then around the end of the tube. Wrap about 3 layers, going at least one inch down the tube.

7. Repeat the same taping procedure for the PPD floor wire harness.

8. Install the new connector clip (4) into the seat frame. Insert the air bag connector into the clip.

9. Determine whether the seat has an oval mounting hole to the right of the connector clip. If so, proceed to step 11. If not, drill a hole in step 10.

10. Mark the hole location 3" (75 mm) from the edge of the mounting clip, 1-1/4" (30 mm) from the edge of the flange. Using a 9/32" (7 mm) drill bit, drill the hole into the seat frame.

NOTE
Vacuum the loose metal chips.

11. Reconnect the connector, use wire ties to secure the air bag wire harness on both sides of the connector. Install wire tie (1) to the right of the connector if there was an existing oval hole, or wire tie (2) if a hole was drilled in step 10. Install wire tie (2) to the left of the connector. Trim the ends of the wire ties.

12. Secure the SAB harness and the PPD grid harness to the bottom of the seat spring with a wire tie (3).

13. Connect the PPD interface wire to the PPD interface. Insert a wire tie (1) into the oval hole about 2 inches back from the end of the connector. Secure the PPD interface wire and trim the extra wire tie length.

14. Reconnect any additional wires disconnected during seat removal.

15. Lower the seat into its mounting position.

16. Now perform the driver's seat procedure if it has not already been completed.
