REAR STABILIZER BAR BUSHING REPLACEMENT - NOISE REPAIR PROCEDURE

DESCRIPTION:

Some 2001 MY and 2002 MY Sonata, XG300 and XG350 vehicles may experience a knocking or squawking noise from the rear suspension while driving the vehicle over rough road surfaces at low speeds. This noise may originate from the rear stabilizer bar and bushing rubbing together. This bulletin provides a procedure to correct this condition.

^ Model: 2001-2002 SONATA, XG300 and XG350

^ Affected vehicle production date range: Produced through October 19, 2001

^ Affected vehicle identification number (VIN) range:

^ Sonata: Produced through KMHWF25592A570263

^ XG: Produced through kMHFU45E82A163174





PARTS INFORMATION

PROCEDURE:

NOTE
^ Verify that the vehicle is affected by identifying the vehicle production date and VIN.

^ Apply this procedure to both the right and left sides.

1. Lift up the vehicle.

2. Remove the rear stabilizer bracket mounting bolt.





3. Remove the stabilizer bracket from the stabilizer bushing.





4. Remove the stabilizer bushing from the stabilizer bar.





5. Install the new stabilizer bushing after checking the yellow mark.





6. Align the stabilizer-bushing end with the white mark on the stabilizer bar.





7. Install the stabilizer bracket on the bushing and tighten the bracket mounting bolt.

Tightening torque: 35-45 N.m (350-450 kg.cm, 26-33 lb.ft)





8. Replace the stabilizer bar bushing on the other side.

9. Lower the vehicle.
