Service Procedure

NOTE

^ Verify that the vehicle is affected by identifying the vehicle production date and VIN.

^ Service criteria according to condition:

CAUTION

^ To avoid damage to adjacent parts, use care when removing and installing the door trim and regulator.

^ Use caution to prevent damage to the regulator motor mounting bolt when removing the motor from the door regulator.

^ Do not deform the door channel when removing the upper holder rivet.

^ Use caution to minimize damage to the door channel when grinding the channel rivet.

^ Be sure to use anti-corrosion primer to completely cover the channel surface after grinding the rivet.

1. Open the front door.

2. Lower the door glass on both front doors to about one-third (1/3) as shown.

3. Remove the front door trim mounting screws.

4. Remove the quadrant inner cover.

5. Remove the front door inside handle housing.

6. Remove the door trim panel from the door.

7. Disconnect the power window main switch and door lamp connectors and then remove the door trim panel.

8. Remove the door switch mounting bracket and door inside handle.

9. Remove the speaker wire attachment screw and then disconnect the speaker connector.

10. Remove the door trim seal.

NOTE
Use care not to tear the door trim seal during removal.

NOTE
If the door trim seal becomes damaged, it MUST be replaced to prevent future leaks.

11. Remove the door glass mounting bolts from the carrier plate.

12. Pull the door glass out through the window opening.

13. Disconnect the power window motor connector.

14. Remove the door regulator channel mounting bolts and power window motor mounting bolts.

15. Remove the door regulator assembly from the door panel as shown.

16. Remove the motor from the window regulator.

CAUTION
Do not damage the regulator motor mounting screws. The replacement machine screw part number is: 82424-02000.

17. Inspect the window regulator:

A. If the cable is tangled on the cable drum, the window regulator must be replaced.

P/N 82403-38011 (LH side)

P/N 82404-38011 (RH side)

Proceed to Step 27.

B. If the cable is properly wound on the cable drum but upper holder is cracked, proceed to step 18.

18. Move the regulator carrier plate to the bottom of the channel, away from the upper holder.

19. Grind off the regulator upper holder mounting rivet on the back side of the glass channel using a grinder.

NOTE
Use caution to minimize grinding the channel surface.

20. Using a punch, remove the ground rivet.

^ Upper holder removed from glass channel

21. Apply anti-corrosion primer over the grinding marks on the channel. All of the exposed bare metal must be covered.

Allow the primer to dry before continuing.

TIP:
Start disassembling the other door while the paint dries.

22. Install the regulator wire to the new upper holder assembly as shown.

23. Insert the upper holder mounting bolt to the channel hole.

24. Loosely install the nut onto the upper holder mounting bolt.

25. Rotate the upper holder to place the holder boss into the channel hole.

26. Tighten the upper holder mounting nut completely.

Tightening torque 7-11 N.m (70-110 kg.cm, 5-8 lb.ft)

27. Verify the regulator carrier plate moves up and down smoothly.

28. Install the motor back onto the window regulator. Use care not to strip the screws.

29. Install the window regulator into the door and reinstall all removed components in the reverse order of removal.

NOTE
The door trim seal (P/N's 82391-38110 LH and 82392-38110 RH) must be intact and sealed to prevent future water leaks. If it is torn, it must be replaced. If it needs additional sealant, use butyl tape, 3M strip caulk or a similar sealant product.

30. Check the power window glass for proper operation.

31. Perform the above procedure for the power window regulator upper holder in the other front door.
