Airbag Control - B1448 OCS (Occupant Classification System) Mat Defect - General Information
Component Location
General Description
On MC (11MY) vehicles, safety sensing system for occupant detection and classification has been changed from Occupant Classification (OC) to Body Sense.
The OC system monitors a front passenger seat for occupancy by means of a pressure sensitive matrix sensor, but the Body Sense system detects seat occupancy and classifies the occupant by using an electrical field sensor. Unlike the pressure sensitive matrix sensor, the electrical field sensor is very sensitive to moisture and electronic devices and therefore please give customers advice not to put any electronic devices on or around the passenger seat cushions and also spill water or beverage on the seat cushions.
In order to make normal activation of passenger airbag system, SRSCM detects DTC(s) for the Passenger side Body Detection System.
Communication Line.
ACU recognizes the signal as 2 (two) different classifications; that is, CLASS 1 (Empty and CRS), CLASS 2 (5th%female).
With these signal, ACU determines whether it needs to deploy PAB (Passenger Airbag) or not.
CAUTION:
- If some electronic devices such as laptop computer, aftermarket DMB, navigation device, satellite radio, video game machine, MP3 player are put on/around a passenger seat cushion or water is spilled (poured) on the seat cushion, the airbag warning lamp may be illuminated with DTC B1448.
- If airbag warning lamp is turned on, follow the directions outlined in the below Service Procedure first before repairing the airbag system.
DTC Description
The Passenger side Body Sense sensor ECU sets DTC B1448 if there is any fault in Passenger side Body Sense sensor Mat.
DTC is set if Airbag ECU receives fault message from Passenger Body Sense Sensor ECU via KWP 2000 Communication Line.
