SERVICE INFORMATION

If a 1999-2000 G20 has the following symptom present:

^ A high pitched grinding/growl noise when the engine is started, especially when cold.

The grease may have drained from the starter motor due to higher temperatures around the starter motor location. A replacement starter motor has been developed which uses a new grease designed for operation at higher temperatures.

If this should occur, use the Service Procedure provided in this bulletin to replace the starter motor and correct the incident.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Remove the existing starter motor and install the appropriate replacement starter motor (see the PARTS INFORMATION section of this bulletin for details). Refer to the appropriate Service Manual, Section SC (STARTING & CHARGING SYSTEM/Starting System/Removal and Installation for information regarding starter motor replacement.

NOTE:
The Part Numbers for the replacement starter motors are model year specific.
