SERVICE INFORMATION
The Applied Vehicles feature the Infiniti Integrated HomeLink(R) Transmitter system. With its radio frequency (RF) transmitter built into the driver's-side sun visor, this system can be programmed to activate most electronic garage doors and security gates. With three separate programmable control buttons, the Infiniti Integrated HomeLink(R) Transmitter eliminates the need to carry common hand-held RF transmitters. A laminated card contained in the Owner's Literature Kit covers the simple programming instructions. A copy of this card is included in this bulletin as Attachment II.

A HomeLink(R) transmitter can also be programmed to activate household lights, appliances, etc., through off-board lighting kits (purchased separately). Many of these non-Infiniti products (such as the HomeLink(R) Home Lighting Kit), interface with the Infiniti system. This bulletin summarizes important client support information for Infiniti dealership staff.

Client Support - Responsibilities

Typically, three different groups might be asked to assist Infiniti clients with Infiniti Integrated HomeLink(R) Transmitter related incidents:

Essential Tool
The Kent Moore P/N J41540 Infiniti Integrated HomeLink(R) Transmitter Tester kit is designed to support systems test/diagnosis. Instructions are provided with the tester for proper operation. The tester kit consists of the following components:

^ Integrated HomeLink(R) Tester
^ Hand Held (Test) Transmitter
^ 12v Power Supply
^ 12v Power Adapter
^ Plastic Case and die cut foam

This kit will support Functionality Testing, Range Testing, and "Training" Testing as described in Attachment I of this bulletin "Integrated HomeLink(R) Tester Operating Instructions". These instructions are also included in the tester kit.

Service Procedure
The basic procedure for handling service needs on the Infiniti Integrated HomeLink(R) Transmitter system is as follows:

1. Client contacts dealership (or dealership receives a Consumer Assistance Request.)

2. Dealership reviews customer concern:

A. Verify correct transmitter programming (with client)
B. Review diagnostics
C. Verify (if known) that the home garage door system is compatible

NOTE:
Attachment II is a copy of the "programming card" found in the Owner's Literature Kit; this can be reviewed with the client to verify proper programming. A Trouble-shooting Guide (job aid) with common Questions & Answers is also provided as Attachment III. Attachment V is a list of garage door openers known to be compatible with the Infiniti Integrated HomeLink(R) Transmitter.

3. If the client has programmed the system correctly (the garage door system is listed on Attachment V), but a problem still exists, the dealership should use the test kit to verify the system is transmitting a signal. (Also see step 6).

4. If the Infiniti Integrated HomeLink(R) unit fails prescribed testing, the unit (sun visor) should be replaced.

5. If the unit passes the prescribed tests and a problem still exists, then the HomeLink(R) Hotline (1-800-355-3515) should be contacted for assistance. The Hotline will provide technical support.

6. If the client's hand-held transmitter is non-compatible, HomeLink(R) Hotline personnel will research the garage door system and may make available a "Fix Kit" if necessary. The Infiniti client pays for the "Fix Kit" interface and applies it to their (home) garage door system.

Other Important Considerations

1. Pre-1982 Garage Door Systems.

In 1982, Federal Safety Standards mandated that manufactured of garage door openers equip their systems with the safety stop and reverse features if they did not already do so. Those systems that do not have these features cannot be enhanced with the "Fix Kit" in the event that they do not program to HomeLink(R).

If these pre-1982 garage door openers are defective in any way, they cannot be serviced, and, in some states (New York, California, Minnesota, and Indiana) the openers must be totally disabled by the garage door opener service technician and the technician must notify the owner of the need to upgrade that system.

2. Fix Kit

The Fix Kit will, based on HomeLink(R) Hotline advice, allow most non-compatible garage door systems to work with the Infiniti Integrated HomeLink(R) Transmitter. The Fix Kit is a client billable item. Fix Kits will not be supplied for pre-1982 garage door opening systems.

3. Additional HomeLink(R) Compatible Products

A. HomeLink(R) Lighting Package and other Lighting and Appliance Modules.
A HomeLink(R) Lighting Package may be purchased directly from HomeLink(R) (1-800-355-3515) by dealerships or clients. This kit contains various electronic modules that are activated by transmitters such as the Infiniti Integrated HomeLink(R) system. Additional modules (both lighting and appliance) can be purchased through retailers such as Sears or Radio Shack.

B. Entry door locks.
If the Infiniti client does not already have a RF entry door lock, they can find them at any retailer that carries the Weiser brand of door locks. To locate the nearest retailer, contact Weiser at 1-800-343-9652 or on the Internet at www.powerbolt.com.

C. Estate/Community Gates.
HomeLink(R) is capable of activating RF gates used at private residences as well as community gates. These gates can be found at most gate and gate operator distributors.

D. Security Systems.
With the addition of the ITI Security Interface, HomeLink(R) is both backwards and forwards compatible with many security systems on the market. The Interface can be acquired through the client's local security dealership. Additional information can be found on the ITI website at www.securitypro.com or by calling toll-free: 1-800-777-1415.

NOTE:
None of these kits, nor any similar kits are covered by any Infiniti support program or warranty. The client should refer any concerns/questions about the HomeLink Home Lighting Kit (A) to the HomeLink Hotline directly. Questions about support for the other kits shown here or other such kits on the market should be directed to their respective suppliers.
