Service Information

XM Satellite Radio, the digital satellite radio service in the U.S., offers 160 digital channels of choice from coast to coast: the most commercial-free music channels, plus premier sports, talk, comedy, children's and entertainment programming; and 21 channels of the most advanced traffic and weather information. With dealer installed XM Satellite Radio, customers receive the same seamless integration into the vehicle's stereo as factory-installed XM.

This integration allows the display of XM Radio information including channel name and number, artist, and song title on the existing stereo display screen.

XM Radio service is available for a monthly subscription fee (Customers can contact XM Radio's Listener Care at 1-800-XMRADIO (1-800-967-2346) for information and pricing regarding multi-year subscription packages.)

XM Satellite Radio offers Isuzu Motors America, Inc. customer's a 1-month free trial period upon activation of a dealer installed XM Radio kit.

The XM radio can receive and play XM's encrypted digital signal once that radio is activated.

Isuzu Accessories permanently installed by an Isuzu Dealer after vehicle delivery are covered by a 12-month/12,000 mile warranty or the balance of the new vehicle warranty for parts and labor (whichever is greater).

XM Satellite Radio Customer Activation Process

Isuzu Ascender XM Radio Kit

Note:
This kit will not install in 2003 Ascender's.

1. Remove the two 7mm screws that retain the insulator panel to the instrument panel (IP). (See Figure 1)

2. Install the receiver to the insulator panel. Tighten the 10mm nuts to 5 N.m (44lb in). (see Figure 2)

3. Install the black receiver harness with the three connectors according to Figure 3. Connect the 16-way receiver connector to the receiver, connect the 8-way connector to the vehicle's IP harness, and connect the 6-way connector to the vehicle's DVD connector, if equipped with a rear seat DVD system. (If not equipped with DVD system, tape the 6-way connector to the harness to prevent it from rattling.) Be sure that all of the connectors are attached to the holes in the panel.

Note:
For 2004 vehicles, the molding, handle, and sun-shade are removed and installed differently than shown in the following steps. Please refer to the service manual for correct removal and installation instructions of these parts.

4. Open the cap on the passenger side windshield pillar garnish molding. Remove the screw that is behind the cap and carefully release the attaching clip that holds the garnish molding to the pillar. (See Figure 4)

5. Remove the passenger side assist handle by opening the covers and removing the two bolts.

6. Remove the three bolts from the right sunshade and the bolt from the sunshade retainer. (See Figure 7)

7. Loosen the top of the center pillar garnish molding and lower the front portion of the headliner.

Note:
Excessive bending will damage the headliner.

8. Align the template with the front edge of the roof and with the roof ridge, not the far right edge of the roof along the door frame. (See Figure 8)

9. Tape the template down and mark the centers of the two holes through the template with a center punch.

Note:
It's very important to the alignment of the antenna that the holes are drilled exactly as the template shows, so please mark and drill the holes carefully.

10. To catch all the shavings, place a large piece of paper under the sheet metal where the holes will be drilled.

11. Use drill sizes 3/16" and 5/8" for the two holes. Remove any burrs from the holes.

12. Clean out any shavings and apply anti-corrosion compound (Isuzu p/n 8-12346-225-0) to the cut edges of the holes.

13. Remove the 10mm bolt and the retainer from the mounting post and install the antenna assembly from the top of the roof. (See Figure 8)

14. Place the retainer back over the post and start the bolt. Be sure that the retainer is positioned correctly so the coax cable does not get pinched. Tighten the bolt to 6 Nm (53 lb in).

15. Connect the coax cable to the antenna. The correct end to be connected to the antenna has a clip attached within a few inches from the connector.

16. Route the antenna coax cable from the antenna, down along the windshield pillar to the receiver and attach the push-in retainers to the holes in the pillar. (See Figure 9)

17. Install the antenna electrical connector to the receiver. Tape or tie the coax cable to the radio antenna cable to keep it from rattling. (See Figure 10)

18. Before re-installing all the trim parts to vehicle, ensure that the XM Radio is properly connected.

The radio may need to be configured to accept the XM Radio receiver by following the DIGITALRADIO RECEIVER setup section of the service manual.

The vehicle will have to be outside in an open area for the radio to pick up the XM signal. Turn on the radio and press the "BAND" button to select the "XMI" band. The XM preview channel should now come on.

Inform the Customer they will need to call XM Radio's Listener Care at 1-800-967-2346 to activate the XM Radio receiver and initiate the 1-month free trial period. The customer will be required to provide a PROMO Code, radio ID, VIN and billing information to set up the new account. Refer to bulletin IB06-13-S001.
