TITLE: Torque Converter Weld Leak

Condition:

Some customers may comment about an automatic transmission fluid leak from the front of the transmission. This is a MM. torque converter used only on 4L60E V8 engine applications.

Correction:

This leak may be caused by a porous weld on the torque converter seam. The leak is typically very small with only a few drops of fluid seeping from the seam and scattered on the inside of the converter housing.

It is extremely important to use a black light and fluorescent dye, then drive the vehicle when attempting to diagnosis the source of the leak.

Do not replace any torque converter for a weld leak unless fluorescent dye has been used to positively identify a leak.
