Engine Management DTC 69 - Low Battery Voltage
18-39Engine Management DTC 69 - Low Battery Voltage
MODEL: 94 MY 4.0L XJS
DATE: 2/94
ISSUE:
Diagnostic trouble code 69 (gear position signal fault) can be caused by low battery voltage.
When the transmission is in Park or Neutral, the EMS gear position signal wire is grounded through the security system "start inhibit" circuit.
If the engine is cranked when battery voltage is low, the security system can momentarily interrupt the ground, causing DTC 69 to be flagged.
ACTION:
If the CHECK ENGINE warning is illuminated and DTC 69 is flagged, check and recharge the vehicle battery. Refer to Battery Test Report form (W 18).
Clear the diagnostic trouble code from the ECM memory and test for re-occurrence.
To test for re-occurrence of DTC 69, start the engine, select Drive and accelerate at full throttle to 3600 RPM.
If DTC 69 reflags, check the gear position signal circuit to the EMS ECM. Refer to the 1994 MY XJS Electrical Guide.
